Old flash working on newer camera shoe mount!!!
Got my older strobe mount flash unit to work on a modern Sony Alpha DSLR camera. All features retained and everything. Feels a tad flimsy, but so far I haven't had it loosen or anything yet. Also oddly expensive, though for a genuine Sony part, I guess that's what you get.

A Must Have!
This item is an absolute must if you own any of the Sony Alpha Flashes that fit on the old style DSLR’s. All the new Sony cameras are mirror and much smaller. However, there is always a need for a flash, especially for indoor use. It’s expensive to buy a new flash, especially when the one that was for my old Sony cameras is still in mint condition and has a lot of life left in it. This little gadget enables me to put the old style flash on my new Sony mirror cameras, and it works just the same way as it works on my old Sony Alpha. I’ve used it with great results.

Able to legacy equipment, if it is compatible
I bought this adapter so I could use my old Metz 54MZ-3 from my KM 5D/Sony A65V days, on my newly used A77ii, but the camera and the flash don't communicate well. The lens encoder data doesn't propagate properly to the flash, so the distance adjustments are all out of whack. TTL resulted in overexposed photos, but "Auto" mode had better exposures. Still, I can't afford to be tweaking the flash in dynamic situations. While I believe the adapter worked as described, I can't use it in my particular situation.

Works! Flashes stay secured.
I was concerned from reading previous reviews about this slipping out of Sony's standard hot show but I don't see how that's happened to people. When you insert the adapter (on an a7 for example) you can feel it "click" into place and then by turning the dial wheel to tighten it onto the hot shoe it makes a very secure connection. I used it to mount an HVLF43 and HVLF58 flash for an event and I had no problems. I felt confident having those flashes on the camera with this adapter. Perhaps older models had issues but I don't foresee any issues with this one. Also, I had Phottix Odin trigger/receiver set that I got for my a77 but it wouldn't work with third party hot shoe adapter on my a7 and was about to sell off my flashes until Gary Fong mentioned in one of his vids that Sony's hot shoe adapter addressed this issue so I tried it and sure enough. Now I don't have to invest in new flashes with standard hot shoes!

good product
There are two Sony shoes - so make sure you are buying the one you need. The shoe in the picture allows you to use an old style flash with Sony's new mount. I have an old style TTL flash and bought this mount. When I first examined it and tried to mount it on my Sony a camera it wouldn't fit and that is because there is a guard at the bottom of the mount which you need to remove. After doing that, mounting the shoe adapter and connecting my flash, my camera recognized that the flash was a TTL - the short answer is it works! Others have said there was some wobble. I found none and the shoe and flash mounted on it felt very secure.

Good adaptor but incompatible with Sony Nex-7 Camera
Reviews indicated this adaptor was compatible with the hot shoe on a Sony New-7 camera. Unfortunately it was not.
