First Aid Only PVP 10-004 Iodine Swabs, 10 Count (Pack of 1)

These are absolutely perfect for a first aid kit in you car/backpack/etc. Anywhere you don't want to carry a whole bottle of iodine and swabs, but may need to treat a cut or abrasion.This brand has always worked easily, never came broken or dried out, and I've ordered several times. I consider them essential in a basic first aid kit.

It’s easy to use and easy to carry and store. I definitely prefer these to just one big bottle of iodine and cotton, cuz messy, duh?!These were great for my traveling first aid kid and for the one I got at home as well.

The media could not be loaded. Ideal for cleaning small cuts or in my case fishing hook puncture. I am 'old school' and prefer iodine for cleaning wounds in the field especially if at risk of infections (close to the water) i.e. weils disease etc. Fishing by fresh water or canals is never the cleanest of environments so always treat cuts that break the skin. The liquid iodine soaks a cotton swab (approx. 5mm diameter (when 'activated 'by breaking/crushing pod). full instructions on each of the 10 vials so can be packed separately. Arrived in good condition (UK customer). can be used for multiple applications throughout the day until iodine fluid is used (but discard after activation ie: do not keep for more than a few hours). When combined with sting relief wipes: Pac-Kit 19-002 Sting Relief Wipes (Box of 10) and tweezers Medipoint Splinter Out Splinter Remover, 20 Count you have everything you need to deal with life's inconveniences when fishing.

Great for travel

These are an important part of my first aid kit. Unlike rubbing alcohol, iodine can sterilize an area. That is why they use iodine swabs on the area where they will insert the needle when you donate blood or over an area in surgery where they are going to make incisions. These iodine swabs can sterilize the area where you are doing first aid. But since these contain liquid iodine, they can also be used to purify water in an emergency (4 drops per liter or canteen then wait at least 30 minutes) though they are marked to be used for topical use only. Around the 1900s when piped-in water was still new, water treatment plants used iodine to treat the water since, unlike chlorine, it kills viruses in addition to bacteria. But people didn't like the brownish appearance of their water or the taste so water treatment plants made the change to chlorine. Povidone-Iodine solutions have also been shown to be effective in washing suspect fruits and vegetables and as a gargle for a sore throat (4 times a day).So if you are looking for something that can sterilize a wound site (you squeeze at a dot to break the barrier around the iodine so it can saturate the swab), these are much more effective and have a longer shelf life than iodine wipes.
