A unique memoir of the Second World War
I have read many books about this horrible time in history and my heart breaks each time I read someone else’s experiences. The author writes in a way that makes you feel that you are right there with him and feeling every emotion that he is feeling. How he was able to go through all that he did, and still has a strong will to make the best of life just astonishes me.He is definitely an inspiration to me and I thank him for writing this book so that the horrors of the holocaust will never be forgotten. What makes this story so powerful is that it is written from a child’s perspective during the Second World War. We usually think of only adults when it comes to history’s atrocities, overlooking those who suffer and are damaged the most...children.Each Holocaust survivor has a unique and individual story. However, these survivors’ stories didn’t end in 1945. They continue through to the present day. Their testimonies provide us with an understanding of how the events of the Holocaust have shaped their lives and are an ongoing testimony to the strength of the human spirit.Yoseph Komem’s actual story of survival offers a fascinating and all encompassing human dramatization that stretches out from the dim days of the Second World War to the autonomous State of Israel. The author paints his life story in a very vivid and moving way. It’s a holding and inspiringly idealistic account based on personal experiences, you’ll appreciate each page of this captivating voyage of hope and inspiration. This really is a remarkable story.

WWII
WWII Holocaust. The life/times of Yoseph Komem (Jewish, brother), Itzhak Komem (Jewish, brother), & family/friends.My bio-dad was over in WWII Germany US Army infantry. He was messed up for the rest of his life. Not much said about the horrors he saw.I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written WWII Holocaust Jewish family memoir book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great WWII Holocaust movie, a PP presentation, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.Thank you for the free author; BookSends; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)

Well written
I am a scholar of Holocaust studies and have read many memoirs and testimonies. This book is absolutely exceptional. We tend to think all Holocaust memoirs are emotionally wrenching and don't want to read them. This book delineated the family and their trials without becoming overly emotional. Each member was given their voice. I liked that especially. The truth is, we find more than one hero in this book but in my opinion, it is the deaf father who survived and was put thru some kind of hell trying to save his family. How they did it is really a page-turner. EXCELLENT read!

Well Documented Memories
I read a lot about the Holocaust and I found at least three approaches to that topic: personal, when survivors or members of their families write down what happened; documentary, when someone, presumably historian or some other kind of expert, put down facts about that historical period; novel-ish, when someone with the knowledge of that time write a novel about events that might or might not be true. When I read the first kind of books, it is very emotional. When I read the second ones, I can take some distance, a small, but it helps. With novels is the same thing as with a personal approach. This book is a combination of first two approaches and somehow, the documentary part makes the personal part emotionally harder to read. I really don't know why, maybe because all those memories and testimonies now have birth certificates, work licenses, passports, archive evidence which make them more real and scarier.Whoever starts to read this book should have this in mind.

A truly enlightening book.
Having been born during the 2nd World War, I could relate to many of the events that were addressed in the book. As terrible as that war was, it proved that there are caring people and they care regardless of what other people say or do. I was intrigued by the presentation of the book and the authors method of writing it. I was glad the author only mentioned the death camps and didn't dwell on that aspect of the war. I have to admit that I could not follow all the names of the people involved but I didn't find that a distraction. I admire the gentleman who wrote the book and would highly recommend it.

Difficult to read, but probably worth it
I found this book very difficult to follow. Names, both people and places have not been anglicized and there are at least three languages involved (German, Polish, and Yiddish.) Add to this that there are multiple names, especially for people, and it gets daunting. People used (understandably!) assumed names,as well as nicknames, plus their given names! I never did completely figure out who was who! Still, it was interesting to keep me reading to the end! Students of WWII, especially the holocaust, would do well to read this!

This is about Jewish children protected by Catholic, graceful people who helped them survive.
It's a totally engrossing book dealing with holocaust children who miraculously survived the Second World War. The reader gets to know the heroes quite well and since they spend a good portion of their childhood in hiding, the psychological part of the story is heartbreaking. Both the "courage" and the "grace" of the title apply to the kids and those who helped them out.If you want to find out about atrocities and anti-Semitism without being exposed to outright physical torture and suffering, this book handles it with "grace".

Survival with tenacity and patience over fear!
An amazing memoir of events surrounding the Holocaust in Poland. Unbelievable heroism and actions way beyond the call of human duty. Yosef’s family struggle to survive in a ghastly Nazi nightmare
