Funny but Expensive
I remember watching this a long time ago, I assume when it was first aired and was glad to find it here.First, this DVD is recorded right of a VHS cassette and does not have the usual options that a DVD would have (menu, subtitles, etc...). In fact it starts playing as soon as you put it in the player. That's fine with me, but may bother some other folks. The content itself is a little dated in that there is one scene where they have obviously "blue-screened" a bumble bee to fly around Nielsen while he tries to get it away. Also the bat chasing a mantis is staged, but other than that the footage is good.Of course, all of this is peppered with Nielsen's irreverent comments and humor. Two of my favorites are when he is spraying his garden with insecticide and says with a grim look on his face, "Smells like victory." There is also a faint helicopter sound in the background. The other is when a bat is seen taking a praying mantis in slow motion (real footage) and Nielsen states, "There's no Deus in this machina."I have watched this a couple of times since I bought it, but if I had to do over again, I would not have paid the $20.00 Amazon wants for it. In my opinion, it is worth $10 at the most and probably $5 would be a "best price." However if you are a Nielsen fan you'll like this and maybe even think 20 bucks is a fair price. Otherwise see if you can find it for cheaper, much cheaper.

Great DVD - Priced Well
It's a DVD copy but it works great. I'm grateful National Geographic is letting me donate to have such a great video featuring the late Leslie Neilson. He narrates this video so well. It's insightful and humorous.Watch out for the shrew!

Interesting look at the garden
Leslie Nielsen co-stars and narrates beautifully in this National Geographics look at what goes on in the garden on the non-flora, non-cultivated level.Even though there are some obvious blue-screen moments the pictures are incredible as the shrew battle, and the acorn weevil feasting on acorn.Leslie's enthusiastic story telling actually fits rather nicely.

Recommend for classroom,
It's a little slow, but it's great for classroom discussion on microhabitats, behavioral and physical adaptations, human impact on the environment, etc.
