This 40-piece set of Mikasa Regent Bead "porcelain china" is practical and beautiful. According to Mikasa, this pattern is not "fine china" and the primary distinction between their porcelain china and fine china is the level of detail- their fine china has more intricate details, while the porcelain china has larger details. "Fine bone china" has the added distinction of being fine china that contains bone ash. Although not "fine" china, the Regent Bead pattern is high quality and has lovely details that make this a fabulous- but more affordable- set of china. The dishes are white, smooth and glossy and are rimmed with platinum along the inside and outside borders. Platinum dots or "beads" line all the platinum borders, and the four triangular platinum shapes are scalloped (rather than angular) and add a nice touch at the outer borders. Tiny white dots fill the space between the platinum rims and also cover most of the outside of the cups. The platinum trim makes this porcelain china classic and elegant, while the scalloped triangles, "beads" and white dots give this china a contemporary, modern flair. Given that the design is elegant yet also contemporary, I think it's perfect for upscale everyday dining and nice dinner parties too if paired with better linens and flatware. This porcelain china feels strong and durable enough to withstand everyday use, and Mikasa informed me it's chip resistant just like their fine china. These pieces can't go in the microwave, but they are dishwasher safe- making after party cleanup much easier and also making this set more practical for everyday use. The Mikasa site indicates it's best to use a delicate cycle and stop the dishwasher before the drying cycle to avoid heat damage to the platinum details. This is a beautiful set of porcelain china and an outstanding value (current price on Amazon varies between $169-$199). Definitely recommend.

We haven't used these yet but believe they are very nice dishes at a very nice price. We ordered them after verifying they were dishwasher and microwave safe. WARNING...MIKASA HAS CLEARLY PRINTED ON THE BOTTOM OF EACH DISH "HAND WASH ONLY. THEY ARE ALSO NOT MICROWAVE SAFE. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I've had these dishes for 4 years. They are my everyday dishes but also use them for formal dinners, since they look so classy. I put them in the dishwasher and they still look like new.

Is this Mikasa? It is very low quality. As you can see on the picture-pattern runs off the cup. It also weighs as if it is made of lead.

First of all, this is a beautiful set of dinner ware and I was looking forward to using it for everyday use. I was aware that due to the silver linings, they would not be microwave safe and I was ok with that. The product listing (and many reviews) clearly states that they are dishwasher safe. Now I received them, turned them around and surprise: HANDWASH ONLY is stated on each piece!! (See attached pictures if you don't believe me.) How can this be posted and reviewed by customers as dishwasher safe and it clearly states on the items that they are not??? This is a deal breaker for me since I purchased this set for everyday use and not just for Christmas when the In-Laws visit for dinner. I will definitely not wash them everyday by hand as I would loose my mind and risk receiving divorce papers from my husband! I could take my chances and just put them in the dishwasher but why risk that if if clearly states that they are not meant for that? Unfortunately, this set will be returned.

Love my Mikasa set! Made a big statement. Used for the holidays.

I bought this set of Mikasa because I needed an everyday set of dishes. My previous had pieces that had broken, and with the deep burgundy, they were now chipping. I am extremely satisfied with them. I know they're not "fine china", but that isn't what I needed. The pattern and beading adds an elegance, so these can definitely be used not just everyday, but for a dinner party.

Just received. It’s just beautiful. Very elegant. At first I just saw the silver design white. I didn’t notice the white on white. Just love it. And bought another one of the same for when guests are over.

Ordered thru Amazon Canada, the box left San Bernardino, California USA for Kent, WA then to Richmond, BC and finally to my hometown in Quebec = 7000km trip and not a single piece broken. Thanks to a box in a box, also glad there is no styrofoam, everything tightly packed in recyclable cardboard. I inspected the set carefully, not a single piece defective, good quality contol by Mikasa. Also happy about not too many markings on the bottom of each piece (see picture). My only deception is that in fine prints on the bottom side of the box they say to HANDWASH ONLY ...see picture ... (Amazon's description said dishwasher safe), and I hate washing dishes by hand.

Amazing!!

I fell in love with this set when I had received it. Unfortunately, as you can clearly see in the pictures, the have since faded away. I'm a man living alone and and truly didn't expect this to happen as I had assumed that the MIkasa Brand was a 1st class craftsmanship. I have older dishses that are about 50 years old passed on by my parents and still look like new. If you plan to buy these, you'll have to wash them by hand and use them occasionally if you want to preserve their original look.
