Camp Lewa Girls Are We Paperback – June 1, 2020

It’s been a while since I have read a chapter book to a group of children... I typically teach 4-5 yr olds. This years quarantine summer camp experience gave me an opportunity to work with elementary students, and we fell upon this book. The author develops the plot in a way that each child can relate to the characters and identify the same emotions and feelings felt by the characters in the book. Each chapter welcomes new conversations and discussions while building a sense of self and openness to our own individual thoughts and emotions in a fun child friendly story line. We have used some of the ideas in the book to build a sense of community In our own camp and the campers engage in conversations at lunchtime anticipating what will be in the upcoming chapter or what it would be like to be away at camp. That’s a compliment to the author!! Reading this book together has created a bond between new campers and we are so happy that we came across this book! Looking forward to other books written by this author.

This is a great read for anyone who is going to camp, has been to camp or who wants to read a good story about camp. Honestly, it makes me want to pack my trunk and head to the lake! Bancroft does an excellent job of capturing the feels I had when leaving Florida for Maine and what my daughter, 30some years later, felt when she flew across the country to attend her first summer at sleepaway camp. Read and enjoy!

This is a fun, realistic view into the world of a new camper. For alum, it'll bring back great memories. For current campers, especially those who can't be at camp during the COVID-19 summer, it's a great way to connect to what they're missing. For prospective campers, it's a great way to learn about the camp experience and the swirls of emotions surrounding it.

If you have someone going to camp for the first time, this is the perfect book! For full disclosure, I know the author and her twin sister - both featured in the book. And here is what I think - When can I expect the sequel to come out... Because I would love to know what happens during the second year of camp!! I absolutely loved it! Please make this a series.

A wonderful story about the ultimate summer experience for many children! The author's voice could be heard so clearly and what a wonderful story to prepare children for their first away camp experience. Loved it!!

It was the book I didn't know I needed this summer and so enjoyed it! It brought back so many memories of my time at camp! A wonderful read for anyone!
