I bought these for my two super chewers. They can destroy toys in under 10 minutes that are supposedly for nearly indestructible but sadly most do not make it in our house for long. I love the Himalayan chews, although they can finish one in a day, they last considerably longer than most chews. As we all know yak chews are expensive and I was doling them out sparingly. I saw these and after reading reviews thought, why not? I buy the large yak chews and they fit in the orange holder just fine. The openings allow for interest in the chew while preventing them for destroying it quickly. I hear them munching on the holder itself and so far there is zero damage. The first chew lasted just over a week before I took them out and allowed them to finish them off, took less than 30 minutes, and inserted new chews into the holders. That was several days ago and I believe they will hold for about another week before I remove them to replace again. They chew on them off and on throughout the day and carry them everywhere, often exchanging them between themselves because trading among dogs has more appeal for some reason. The chews themselves are being chewed on, there are teeth marks all over them but the holder prevents outright chomping. I’m super pleased with these and feel they will last a good long time while also making the yak chews last longer and go further, making us all happy.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Got this for my puppy to help our yaky chews stand a chance but the rubber is already cracking at the edges. Maybe my yaky was too big or maybe our dog was a little too rough on it...I am hoping this one was just defective and have returned it for a replacement. If the second one stands up to his regular use I will update my review with what we learn. Aside from the cracks at the edges, my dog did love the toy. He carried it around even when it was empty and we tested it with water buffalo pizzle sticks which worked great too. It definitely keeps his little brain occupied longer than the treat by itself. There are some reviews saying the dog can't get to the cheese - if the dog is still interested and is licking and playing then the toy is serving it's purpose of keeping the cheese safe from being devoured in five minutes. The licking will soften the cheese and the dog will still get some of the treat, just very slowly. After a couple of hours our cheese hardly had any damage but the dog absolutely loved it. The jug head (if the next one isn't defective) is not only prolonging play, it's keeping dogs safe from choking themselves on small pieces they could normally break off of the cheeses. With all that said, your mileage may vary but with my three agressive chewers I rate this a 3/5 with hopes that the toy I got was just a bad batch and the next one may last longer. Great concept! UPDATE: after over a year with four of these jughead's now I am upgrading this product to 5/5 stars. The first one we had did start to fall apart but the Amazon return process made it easy to swap out and we haven't had an issue since. I think now the issue with the first one was just my own learning curve - I think the cheese I was using was too big so I bought 2 medium and 2 large jughead's to make sure no matter what size cheese I get it will fit, plus, now each dog can have their own jughead! As. All four of the jughead's we use are in great shape and have no splitting like that first one. I recommend the jughead to all of our friends and family.

Pros: 1. My dogs love it. 2. The chew lasts for ages. 3. It keeps them occupied and busy for hours. 4. Enough of the chew is exposed to keep them interested, but not so much that they can demolish it in an hour. Cons: 1. Getting the chew in is a b$/#h! I bought the Himalayan Pet chews (but not the Jughead because they only have one sized for 35lb dogs), but they are a smidge too big, and I really had to work to get them in. It required muscle strength that not everyone is going to have. 2. They smell strongly of rubber. 3. Anything that isn't a tight fit (and therefore easier to get in) isn't going to last. 4. My super aggressive chewer (Dutch shepherd) will eventually get bored and chew the rubber off.

Figuring out the right size chew, length and width is sometimes frustrating. When I do, it does make the chew last substantially longer. I have a beagle boxer mix. It is very durable, but for my size dog it's strength might not be the right match for her, because she doesn't always want to chew it very long unless I shove some soft treats in the edges, so she is more successful at getting something out of it quickly. How securely I shove it in there, or how much I let it stick out the top, greatly influences how long the chew stays in there and how long it takes my dog to finish it.

So I had hoped my dogs would be able to use this. Mixed reviews but I thought I would give it a try. My Yak bones dont fit because because this does not have enough bend to slip them in. Size medium, Size small Yak slide around and fall out. The Chews I bought Himalayan brand thinking it would work...nope they slide out. This is a usless product if you can't make any treats work with it. I am just going back to the Bonehead holder it works fantastic and they lasted me for over a year now. Sending these back!

Brought this for my cavalier that choose like a Rottweiler and thankfully it has defeated him, I put the medium yakbar inside it then put it in the microwave and it puffed up and over a week later he still hasn't got it all out not even by half fantastic buy and a lot cheaper than the branded version

My puppy was not impressed with the smell of the chew, and it was very difficult to get rid of it. The chew's advertising is also very misleading, as you think the Super 100% Natural Cheese Chew comes with it, which it doesn't. You ask yourself, what are you advertising more, the chew or the insert?

HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR TOUGH CHEWERS!!!! we have a 1yr old Rottweiler and I have struggled to find a durable toy that lasts and that I feel safe to let him chew. This HOLDS UP! He has been working at it for 2 days on and off and so far ZERO wear to the rubber and he has barely made a dent in his Yakchew inside. He normally eats them halfway down in 20minutes. Can’t recommend enough. So worth the price and will save money on the yak chews too. I hardly leave reviews but I had to come back here to recommend as I have not found any other toy that keeps him interested that doesn’t wear down.

This is great for keeping dog occupied and makes the cheese sticks last longer as they are quite expensive.

I purchased this so my dog could chew safely on his Himalayan sticks. Understandably the dog just sees it all as one big chew. This item was destroyed after the first 10minutes of using it. On top of it there is a strong artificial plastic smell that also doesn't disappear after putting it in the dishwasher. Don't buy it! Some items weren't needed in the past hundreds of years of pet ownership and are also still not needed today. This is one of them. Most useless dog toy invention that I came across so far.
