The Side Characters Stole the Show
Going into Burning Desire, I didn't have much of an interest in Kiril. He plans a marginally larger role in Fire Rising but not enough to make me want to get his story, at least not yet. I needed to be teased a bit more, I think. Grant branches off from the pattern of the first two books by featuring a Dark Fae as the female love interest, an enemy of the Dragon Kings. On its own, that's enough to cause a number of problems for the couple and the conflicts between their two groups of people came up several times. It's another instant-attraction, on a purely sexual level, but there wasn't enough of a build to make it a true romance warranting the mating ceremony. I liked Kiril well enough. Most of the first half of the book is him re-establishing the whole debacle between the Dragon Kings and Ulrik, a King now stripped of his powers. This has been a key point in their history in every book and every book hashes it out again. I can see the benefits if you're picking up one of the installments mid-series without reading the previous ones, but for someone reading the books back-to-back, it's a tad annoying. And it took up a lot of the time that could have been used to develop Kiril's character. His personality consisted of a stubborn drive to complete his original goal of finding Rhi and thinking about Shara, his Fae lover. And Shara... I mean, she's conflicted on her own, between her family threatening her and these blossoming feelings for Kiril that aren't really developed so much as "I'm attracted to him, oh wait, I love him." Hmm. Yeah. Sure. It just didn't quite work in this book like it has in the others. Honestly the "side" characters were more interesting in Burning Desire. I've held a soft spot for Rhi since Darkest Flame and though she wasn't actively involved in the story, I was more interested to see what happened to her than Kiril and Shara. With Rhi came Balladyn, and the two have some serious history. I see him playing a bigger role in future books, especially as a leader of the Dark Fae.Then there's Ulrik. He's been causing problems (or so the Dragon Kings believe, as nothing's been confirmed) and his appearance and actions in this book had me asking a whole new set of questions about him, and in relation to one particular Light Fae. Plus, Constantine and the other Kings keep hinting at who Rhi's Dragon King lover was but no one will say and while I don't think it's who it looks like based on this book, I'm more curious than ever.I'm definitely addicted to this series and though this couple wasn't all that interesting for me, the rest of the story was and I can see something big happening in the next few books as the conflict breaks into pure chaos.

Disappointing, but it's still the Dark Kings (always a win)
I didn't like this story. So why did I give it three stars? Because I think Donna Grant is an amazingly gifted writer who weaves wonderful tales that easily suck you in to her stories. Because I think her writing is top-notch, I can't imagine ever hating one of her books enough to just give it one or two stars.I didn't like this one because I couldn't buy into the relationship between the two main characters, Kiril and Shara. Kiril, while obviously drool worthy, got on my nerves because of his horrid taste in women. A Dark Fae? Really? How could anyone look at a creature with menacing red eyes and fall in love or even lust? Major ick. I didn't like Shara, despite the fact that she was obviously not quite as warped as most other Dark Fae, and I absolutely didn't like her "relationship" with Kiril. That being said, there really wasn't much of a relationship there. I'm hoping that future books don't have Dark King/Dark Fae relationships because that really didn't work for me.Throughout the book, there was lots of stuff going on with a multitude of sideline characters. Maybe it was just too much miscellaneous "stuff" for the story. I don't know exactly, but something was off in this one. We are presented with some additional information about Rhi, though things are still very much up in the air with her. No clue yet who her mysterious former Dark King lover was. I started thinking maybe Ulrik, but that would probably be too easy.I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this series, so I highly recommend those. Because Ms. Grant provides sufficient background information about what's going on in this world in each book, you don't necessarily have to read them in order. I personally recommend doing that, though, just because it's a series and I personally find it more enjoyable to read series in order. That's just me, though.

Dark Kings Series
This novel is #3 in the "Dark Kings" series by author; Donna Grant. So far, I've finished the first 3 novels in this series and I'm still enthralled with the Scottish Alpha males that are able to shift into their natural forms as Dragons. However, what I loved most about this novel was the main female character. She was awesome! You couldn't help to not root for her, she went through some deep stuff throughout the story. I just couldn't help but to fall in love with her from the very beginning. The main male character is still a mystery to me. I may have to reread the novel or go back a couple novels because I may have totally missed how he was introduced. Overall, I'm still enjoying this series very much. There's DRAGONS, lots of action, heartbreak and romance! I really do recommend this author and series, you won't be disappointed.

Amazing
This series is amazing, and this book in the series is another fabulous addition. Kiril is one strong, proud and may I say cocky Dragon King, but with his skills he has the right to be cocky. Shara was unexpected and I liked the person she ended up becoming. The two of them together were as explosive as dynamite. From the moment they meet you can feel the connection and the sexual tension, and each time they come together it doesn't dissipate it gets stronger. They were so evenly matched in their strength of characters. Shara may have lost her way slightly but she was soon back on track and back in Kiril's arms. In this book we have the answer to some of the mysterious posed in the previous books. We find out about Rhi and we learn a lot about Balladyn and the real reason he is so focused on Rhi. The mysteries also deepen with questions posed about Ulrik, Rhys and Lilly and the plot thickens further around the ongoing storyline. I read it and I immediately wanted more, I have become gripped by the characters and seeing the story unfold. This is a series that will keep you hooked and begging for more.

Another exciting, edge of the seat book from Donna. Each book brings us more characters to enjoy and empathise with. Can't wait for Hot Blooded.
