Gwendolyn's Pet Garden

Gwendolyn wants a pet, but her parents don't think it's a good idea. They give her something else that can be like a pet-a box of dirt. She isn't convinced at first, but with some seeds, sun, water, and encouragement, this bed of soil has some tricks of its own. My three-year-old has asked to read this book twice a day this week. He loves the idea of gardening.

I got this as a gift and twice it came with a very wrinkled book jacket.

Picture book. Gwendolyn wants a pet, of any kind really, but her parents are full of reasons why not. Finally they give her a square raised bed of dirt, which Gwendolyn plants with various seeds from the seed lending library. She waters, talks to the plants, and eventually measures their growth. A cute story about a child taking on the role of garden nurturer. Gwendolyn is drawn in hot pink clothes, which go great with the colorful illustrations and add a bit of zest. Author's note encourages kids to garden and explains seed libraries.

This book was in brand new condition.This is a beautiful story and I will enjoy sharing it with my K4 classroom

I like how Gwendolyn really desires to take care of something and learns to care for a garden. She didn't get what she wanted at first but was thankful.
