Will this work on shag area rug?

Roomba's are built to be able to clean and move back and forth over many different kinds of surfaces. The Robot has a 5/8" clearance that allows it to traverse most thresholds, rugs and carpets up to that height. If the Rug were deeper than 5/8" the Robot may not be able to clean it as effectively as a more shallow pile rug.

I have a shag rug that has long hairs, about 2 inches. Can I program the Roomba to just skip those rugs?

The Roomba 981 would not be able to be programmed to avoid specific areas. You would, however, be able to use a Dual Mode Virtual Wall. This accessory would emit Infrared beams that would keep the Roomba away from specific areas.

I have another roomba and was wanting another to work on the lower level of my home. can i have two that will work on one app and with all my alexas?

There is an area after 3 sweeps where it hasn't 'figured out' exists. Does it have distance req f/ home port thats keeping it from 'finding it'?

If there is a consistent area in your home that the Roomba is not cleaning. You would want to make sure that there are not any obstacles or anything that would interfere with the Roomba in that area.
