A buyer's experience
The wheels are just fine. I have four I bought locally (Anchorage) and would have gotten a 5th from Amazon except for 2 problems (1) Sacchi has run a mass of mis-drilled wheels and(2)trust your doubts even in the face of experts. So here's an alert. Please read to the end.Tirerack.com says that the bolt hole spacing is measured across the diameter, so for my 4x100 bolt pattern, from one side to the matching hole across the hub-hole, I expected to see 100mm (10 cm). I measured 110. I took the wheel to the tire shop from whom I was buying 4 Nokian winter tires, for them to say Yes or No. The tried it on and said it did not fit. So I figured the Amazon supplier had put the wrong wheel in the correctly labelled box (true). Amazon exchanged it for free. Got the 2nd wheel. It measured the same, and I sent it back. I then ordered my 5th wheel instead from a different tire shop; the one from whom I bought the original 4 (when going from a 17" to a 16" wheel), at $12 more for the wheel and $20 shipping. Same measurement. I took the wheel to them for confirmation. They happen to have a nifty tool with 2 probes that fit into the holes. They measured adjacent holes (not across the diameter) and positively pronounced it is the correct wheel (wrong) and is the same as the others. Turns out Sacchi does not even make a 4x110 (they do by mistake), so more proof the Tirerack info is WRONG (it's correct, NOT wrong). My thanks to Amazon for their exchange policy, but no thanks for not measuring the 2nd wheel before shipping. It's like buying shoes on the net but for someone else's feet.As a footnote to this, it turns out that American Tire could have ordered the Nokian tires. They'd gotten authorized just as I was ordering them from the other shop. So buyers, be forewarned. I should have tried the wheels on for myself, but because MINIs use bolts, not studs, and because of the wheels being drilled for 2 sizes, I figured an expert (the Tire Factory) opinion was needed, as they would be the ones to install the new tires. But wait; there's more.Back when I took the 3rd wheel in to the shop from which I bought it, it now appears that the fellow mis-read the tool. The TireRack guidance that you measure across the diagonal IS correct. The tool measures adjacent holes and converts (multiply by the sqr-root of 2) to the diagonal measurement. Anyway the guy misread it. I know this now because the day before I was to get my 4 Nokian non-run-flat snow tires, I figured I better try out the MINI tire changing process if I'll be depending on a spare. The wheel CLEARLY did not fit, and did not match hole dimensions with the wheel I'd removed (s'posedly the same wheel). Holes were off by 10cm. I took the wheel back to where I bought it, talked with the manager, and he (a)said their fault ... messed up, and (b) called their Seattle supplier warning them of the mis-drilled or mis-labelled wheels, and saying "measure before shipping". But that supplier gets the wheels from LA. So the story continues.Summary to this point, of 3 Sacchi wheels ordered and received, 2 from Amazon and 1 from a shop, ALL were wrong.
