Very cool boot knife
I was looking for something smaller - something that could be concealed or attached to boot or gear. This little beauty fits the bill! The handle is ergonomic - feels like it was built to fit into your hand (or at least mine - I have a smaller - broad hand), with a place to even 'rest' your thumb and forefinger when grasping it, stabilizing the knife. The sheath is made out of a hard polymer 'plastic' that is made to last. The design of the knife makes it fit snugly into the sheath, so it WILL NOT fall out accidently if you choose to connect the sheath to a boot or gear in the 'upside-down' ready-to-use position. You will have to give a slight tug to get the knife from the sheath, so you will have to secure it fast to where you plan on using it. There are holes along the outside of the sheath that are made for 550 paracord to lash it to your gear of choice, plus it has a 'clip on' function. Just realize that you cannot use the clipon alone and expect to pull the knife from the sheath without supporting the sheath with the other hand. This knife came sharp, however I still plan to hone the edge sharper. This is the kind of high quality product you would expect from S & W.

Great Product
This is a great knife for the price. I specifically picked model for a few reasons.1. The full tang design. The handles are there to make the grip wider and more comfortable, but could easily be used without them if needed. The top of the knife is thicker than most, especially for it's length.2. The hand feel. The ridges on the spine give a good solid position for your thumb. The half finger loop on the bottom holds your index finger securely. The knife sits well in the hand and allows a lot of dexterity without losing grip when working in tight places.3. The blade. It's only sharp on one side so you don't have to worry about hurting yourself from kick back. You can push the blade through something dense from the top. It's also a great length for most any task.In addition to those points, the sheath is nice and compact. Many have reviewed having issues with it. If you have problems with this sheath being tight, you shouldn't own a knife. If it were any looser, it would certainly be falling out of it within a year from purchase.Lastly, it's designed to be a boot knife. I wasn't looking for that, but I evaluated it anyway. Don't expect the sheath to clip nicely to your boot. If it does, consider yourself lucky. It does however fit nicely on a belt up to about 1.25" wide.

POV - tool instead of a weapon
I've read all the reviews of this knife and most of them appear to be written by people with implied intent to use this knife as a weapon. In contrast, my review is from the POV of this knife as a tool. Some reviews criticized the plastic sheath because it held the knife too tightly; however, from my POV, this is a plus. The last thing I want is the knife falling out of the sheath hurting my co-worker below. The sheath is good, hard, rigid plastic that shouldn't crack. The clip holds tightly on my wide belt. I've never carried a knife in my boot. How would I get to the knife while working on a ladder? Reach down to my boot? The knife can be easily pulled from the sheath with one hand if you use your thumb to spread the slot at the top of sheath. Leather sheaths by contrast will loosen and tend to flop around while working. In short, I like the plastic sheath. The knife itself is wide, strong steel and will not break in normal use. The handle has good grip and balance with ridges for your thumb at the hilt. I paid $20 which is affordable for a working person and I don't have to worry too much about losing the knife. Please don't tell me to spend $150 on a Benchmade knife.Lastly, if you need a weapon, get gun. If you need a working knife, I recommend this Smith & Wesson SWHRT1 HRT Tactical Boot Knife.

MADE IN CHINA
Smith and Wesson are killing their reputation by selling items made in China. The sheath is plastic and useless for a boot knife since the entire thing comes out when pulling. It does not keep an edge very well and it's too heavy for its size. My suggestion is move on and get something better for a bit more money.

Without the Smith &Wesson name it wouldn't rate as high IMO
Three stars because it is not as described and that almost always knocks a star off of the rating- unless it is better than described. Most people giving it a generous five stars are using it as a tool, not as a tactical boot knife, as it is described because it does not make a good tactical knife or boot knife. I do agree with everyone saying that the sheath is fine, the. knife fits in it like a hand in a glove,as it should. It is a decent fixed blade knife but the handle is too slippery for it to be a good tactical knife and the bulk and weight and balance are not right for it to be a good boot knife. It is okay. Knives are something where you generally get what you pay for so the name Smith & Wesson doesn't mean much - the same goes for Benchmade one reviewer was griping about because of the price, but if you go and look for a tactical boot knife on YouTube you will see video of some pricey knives - and that you get what you pay for as with most things. Benchmade knives tend to go up in value as they age as do some others that are collectable and made by recognizable names but people shopping for self-defense products often forget S&W is known for their guns, not their knives. This one is a three star knife because it is okay, but it is really nothing extraordinary and it is not a good tactical boot knife as it is described

Good
I was really excited when I got the knife, quality of the blade is great like all other smith and wesson products. I was really disappointed with the sheath design as it does not stay in the boot. Good knife but not a good boot knife unless I am doing something wrong.
