A Day in the Life of a Nurse (Community Helpers at Work)

Great for any child interested in the medical field or about to go for an exam!
I was very happy too see a nurse book centered around a male character. My son is 7 and says he wants to be a nurse. He likes the idea of taking vitals, giving shots and bandages, etc. He is not nearly as interested in doctors. And because my son is not white, to have an African American in the role was a bonus in showing some diversity. He was very excited that Santa gave this to him for Christmas and enjoyed reading it. And to the person who thought it was strange that a male was the main character, there are many male nurses out there. I dated one from the Navy when I was younger. One of his jobs was quite intensive and included lifting and supporting very heavy disabled people to help care for them.

Great Donation to School Library
I donated this book to my elementary school library, in memory of my mother, an R N. I was pleased to find concise text with matching illustrations, depicting duties of a nurse. Our urban school emphasizes college and I was pleased to find a good book about an African American man in this profession. The librarian placed it with books about community helpers.

Three Stars
Funny it's a dude, since WW11 it's been a female dominant career.
