Accomplished storytelling
Gentle, tender, powerful and beautiful storytelling at a pace that lets you develop a relationship and understanding of the main character, Kit. The director and screenwriter Hong Khaou created his first feature film "Lilting" in 2014, it is a breathtakingly accomplished debut. "Monsoon" is his second feature film and does not disappoint. I loved it.

Gay/Queer Life At It's Most Honest
Chinese-Cambodian British Writer and Director Hong Khaou and the team have made a beautiful film indeed. 5 words to sum it up would be, integrity, thoughtful, painful, loving and cathartic. Henry Golding and Parker Sawyers along with the entire cast are brilliant and help to create such a naturalistic film. It may be due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, but I took in the beautiful imagery of Vietnam nearly as much as the story of a man dealing with the difficulties of his life and his families lives both present and past. I love that both leads are men of colour (as am I) which is still a rarity on screen sadly. It was also really refreshing to see that they still had issues over each other’s racial identities and understanding each other’s boundaries. Furthermore the film wonderfully captured the expectation that gay/queer men either put on themselves or society does that we don't need or want loving lasting relationships. It's like It's far less of a risk to be sexual then to reveal who you really are to another man because you'll be rejected, ignored, or judged. This is for you if you enjoyed Lilting and Moonlight, 4 out of 5 Stars.

An interesting storyline
Although an interesting idea, there wasn't any real spark between the two guys and the script was somewhat pedestrian

Full of unfilled promise.
A somewhat disappointing and frustrating watch. I am sure this has been a work of great consideration and passion by the director and team but the purpose of the film and source of that passion were not apparent to me through watching it.The storyline offered to hook me as a viewer but every time I thought we might develop some deeper insights into the characters, we cut capriciously to the next scene. A cornucopia of noisy, busy, roads overrun by 2-stroke mopeds interspersed with references to the reverberating traumas of the Vietnam war, death, and both the ravages and healing afforded by the passage of time..... but rather like ripples over the surface of a pond, we never really got into the depths beneath. After watching the trailer I was intrigued - after watching the film I was indifferent.

Wonderful, lyrical
A lovely gentle film exploring Vietnam of today through the eyes of a man returning to scatter his parent's ashes. Whilst there he starts a relationship with a Black American man who's dad was a soldier in Vietnam. Watching them find ways of understanding their heritage is magical.

Well done expose on the victims of the Viet Nam war
If you are not into slow developing movies don't take this one on. The director takes a very somber issue and let's the viewer feel the weight of the long reaching horrors of Viet Nam through various lives that intersect. I felt the director was fantastic on how he approached creating the emotions of life. We see a young man returning to Viet Nam after 30 years with the ashes of his parents. We see a friend of that young man who survived the repatriation processes post-war. We see the son of an American Viet Nam vet whose father killed himself a few years earlier never being able to let go of the Viet Nam war. In a very abbreviated way we are left with the understanding of the victims of the war, victims even 30 years later.

Simply Delightful
Beautiful Cinematography. Nice calm mood to this story, the acting resounds in realness. The feel of the movie is well carried by the Soundtrack/Score. Henry Golding shines in this exploring dramatic role, very believable. Little Gem of a movie.
