Collecting Ancient Greek Coins: A Guided Tour Featuring 25 Signifiant Types

This book meets my expectations. What I like the most from this book is that it gives technical spesifications of each coin like its weight and diameter. I have some other books that don't provide the information, so I have to buy another one just to find out about the technical information of the coins. I wish I bought this book earlier so I don't have to buy another books in the first place.One tiny complaint I have about this book is that the coins in this book are listed NOT in chronological order. For example, Alexander the Great is number #7, Owls of Athens is number #13, Turtles of Aigina is #14, Pegasi of Corinth is #15, etc.

I have always felt that the most beautiful coins ever minted were those of ancient Greece--they are literally miniature pieces of fine art reserved for posterity. Dr. Rynearson was a mentor to many who were seeking to learn and enjoy this often neglected area of fine art. Many books in this subject matter are quite dry and often lacking in emphasis on the artistic perspective of collecting these coins. This book brings to life a subject matter through words and pictures that can be enjoyed by those who see both the beauty of the art as well as the history of ancient Greece. I highly recommend this book both to the collector, no matter how experienced or inexperienced, as well as those interested in the art and history of the ancient world.

Very informative, gives info on various coins. I liked the Glossary in the back, there are many names and terms that I have heard about but did not know their definition.

This was a Christmas present for a coin collector who recently started taking an interest in ancients. He absolutely loves it as both a read and a reference guide. Pictures are helpful.

I love the detailed book and use it for history at school

Dr. Rynearson has done an exceptional job covering the evolution of Greek Coins. His writing is clear, concise, and the enthusiasm for his subject comes through the text and embraces the reader. His book is a great addition to the field of coin collecting and will prove a pleasure for both the numismatist and historian.

A well done book for beginners trying to collect ancient greek coins, I only wish the could show more coins then what they do. I guess I just like to look at these ancient coins, there's a lot of history to each and every coin.

I appreciated the lavish coin illustrations, over a thousand, allegedly. The Book is described as an Official Whitman Guidebook, and a guidebook it is and usefully so. I'm not at a higher numismatic level, but those who are will benefit from this book, as I will, as one with limited knowledge, but boundless fascination of ancient coinage.
