Salt and Pepper Grinder Set, Refillable, Pump & Grind, Thumb Press (Spring Action Stainless Set)

Update: May 2017. See the comment posted below. I was unaware that the mills would disassemble from the base. If I had known this, I would have gladly given the product 5 stars, so I've changed the rating. I've left the original review below because I do believe, given enough time and use, the mills would need to be taken apart to be cleaned. Use care with the threaded view windows. Other than that, these are good, solid grinder mills. I've been using mine for more than half a year now with no issues. Highly recommended! And a special thanks to the company for posting their comments.A handsome and impressive pair. The stainless steel finish looks good and is easy to clean. With grinders this small, there are always sacrifices. For starters, they're not adjustable, but what comes out is neither too coarse or too fine. And the salt mill seems to drop a little more than the pepper mill. My biggest concern is longevity. The way to refill these is to unscrew the bottom half from the clear acrylic center. Not a problem in or of itself, but if the threads on the acrylic part ever get 'boogered up' or stripped, these mills will be useless. I would advise anyone who has these to exercise EXTREME care when refilling and re-attaching the base.To me, this is a set to put aside for special occasions...those intimate dinners for two, to 'wow' your friends or guests, or to keep on the bar for making those spicy Bloody Mary drinks. But for everyday use? No, I'll still fall back on traditional shakers. That's not to say I believe these mills are fragile, but I don't see them practical for everyday use or for cooks who depend on precise measurements.

I'd wanted a sleek-looking, not-plastic set of grinders that would be easy to use with one hand to add fresh salt and pepper.These are not your standard salt and pepper grinders. Cylinders are no more than 6 inches tall and are very slim, they are different from the others on the market. The casing is metal. The plastic insert holds the salt and pepper and allows you to see when it's time for a re-fill. The grinding mechanism is metal, too. They are made from high quality parts.Another feature that sets these grinders apart from the others is that they are operated with only one hand; more precisely, just your thumb or index finger. There is no need to hold the cylinder with one hand, twisting with the other.Both the salt and pepper grinders come filled. Refilling the grinders is is a very simple and quick process.We have had these for over a year. We have not experienced the jamming situation as others have mentioned. The only down side is it does not produce a lot each time you push it so using it to cook is a little unrealistic but they are great for the dinner table and they look amazing on it too!

I saw these at my sister-in-law's house and fell in love with them so I had to get my own. They are sleek, solidly made and easy to use. It does take significant effort to depress the plunger with really coarse salt, but I honestly don't use salt very often so that's not a problem for me. It would probably be difficult for someone with arthritis or, I don't know, Brittle Thumb Syndrome.The one-handed operation is very handy for small amounts when cooking. I still use the full-sized pepper mill for larger amounts, but these are my go-to mills. Some reviewers feel the size is too small, but I think if they were much larger the angle of the thumb would make them hard to operate. As is they feel comfortable in my hand. Refilling is easy and the convenient, simple stand keeps them upright and looking good. The packaging is attractive and high quality, which would make them a good gift. Or, just keep them for yourself.

We love this set. We have been using a similar set from crate and barel that we were given as a wedding gift 12 years ago. That one has taken a lot of abuse over the years from our boys and one finally cracked. I found this set to replace it and compared side by side. They are extremely similar to our old set— definitely just as sturdy. I love the sleek design. Feels great in my hand and makes that wonderful fine salt powder that’s perfect for adding extra salt at the table. Highly recommend.

The grinder is nice looking. It is smaller than expected and holds a small amount, but it grinds soooooo fine, you get such a small amount at a time.

First, the quality of this set is amazing. Second, they are a great conversation starter anytime we have someone over to the house. They are fascinating in their simplicity and very well made. Easy to use, easy to refill, and work great. The size is small and light enough for even my 93-year-old grandmother in law.

I love these grinders. I love the look, and the functionality, especially the broad circular pattern of coverage the salt/pepper falls in.The salt grinder can get a little hard to push sometimes, but I discovered a little trick for getting even less salt than a full push: simply baby it, pushing it every so slightly, and just a little salt comes out, even though it might feel stuck. Your mileage may vary depending on how the salt crystals fall/align in your grinder. Overall, they're great!Note: For some reason, mine came without the stand, or the box. I contacted Amazon customer support and asked if they could just send me the missing piece, and the person said they had no option in their computer to do this, and said I would need to return it, and then buy it again. Feeling like this was a waste of shipping money (even though Amazon is paying for it), I reluctantly agreed. Within a few hours of this, I received an email from Grind Gourmet, asking if everything was okay, since I was returning it (I hadn't even shipped it yet). I told them I loved the grinders, but they didn't come with the stand shown. They were shocked and very concerned. I said I would love to keep my order, and asked if they could simply mail me the missing stand. They said of course, and had it to me within a few days. I love the whole set. GREAT customer service from Grind Gourmet, and Amazon needs to figure out a better way of handling issues like this.

I like the look of these and the quality so far seems adequate. My only complaint is the mechanisms for grinding the salt and pepper are quite stiff so it takes more work than I expected to use them. Definetely ok for the dinner table but not when you're preparing food and want to quickly add salt and pepper. It takes too long to get the amount of S&P needed for most recipes.

The product has scratches, it's not worthy.

Waren etwas Teurer, ich würde die auch nicht für Salz nehmen. Aber für meine Chili Kollektion besser geht nicht. Super
