2013 two CD collection. Though Dusty Springfield's pop-chart heyday came in the latter part of the '60s, the foundations of this success were laid very much in the pre-Beatles era with The Springfield's and prior to that, the Lana Sisters focusing more on Folk and Country. Featuring 'Chimes of Arcady' and 'Silver Threads And Golden Needles' the material here represents the first chapters of her sensational success story.

Dusty Springfield's recording debut
Great collection of The Springfields (Dusty Springfield with an uncle and brother before she started recording solo). Large variety of songs (folk, standards, country, etc) featuring Dusty's distinctive voice coming through like Linda Ronstandt's singing with the Stone Ponies. Delivered in good condition with a longer shipping time from UK.

Very nice collection of material. I really only knew their song Silver Threads and Golden Needles, then heard Island of Dreams and decided to buy the cd.

Error
A 2 disc set. Even though the second disc, The Lana Sisters, appeared as Little Richard when I went to burn the disc to my PC, it was the Lana Sisters. I DID need to edit the tags to show the correct artist, and song titles, for it tp ne correct. Some people may not have the ability to edit the song tags, so a caution for some.

The Springfields sing again!
Most people know before her incredible solo career Dusty was a member of The Springfields, but I wonder just how many know she was in The Lana Sisters before that ?Well, now you can hear Dusty's output before 1963 with this retrospective on both The Springfields AND The Lana Sisters. Firstly The Lana Sisters who along with The Beverley Sisters and later The Kaye Sisters were about all the UK had as far as 'girl groups' were concerned. They were 'poppy', but also more adventreous than the others with their material choices. Today it does sound dated, but it's a great picture of what pop music was like in the late 50's/early 60's.The Springfields (mainly due to Dusty's superb voice) quickly became the most popular UK group winning several awards, but they saw The Merseybeat sound and The Beatles coming up, so at the height of their popularity they broke up. Many fans couldn't understand this at the time, but out of it came the greatest female singer the UK has ever had - Dusty was about to GO and show the world 'perfection'This collection of nearly all of The Springfield's recordings just shows the sheer quality and class Dusty brought to pop music. Here we have some great songs ('Say I won't be there', 'Island of dreams', 'Silver threads and golden needles' etc), through to some of the most memorable and tuneful songs from South America and the US,as well as a couple of 'happy twee ditty's' that they most probably wished no one would remember! This is a WONDERFUL collection, and should be purchased by everyone who loves pop music and nostalgia..especially at this price.

Early Dusty Springfield
Always been a fan of The Springfields, it’s a double set with one disc devoted to The Springfields, and the other to the Lana Sisters, some of Dusty’s earliest recordings.. Good to hear the versions of old folk songs too performed very well by the group, not tried The Lana Sisters one yet.
