The Who Essential

Excellent career overview at great price
I have already have two The Who compilations: The Story of the Who, which has good coverage of the period to 1975 but is only available on vinyl, and Then and Now (1964-2004). This three CD compilation covers The Who's entire career with the exception of their excellent 2019 album, Who. All for £5 - that makes great value for money. I was impressed with the sound quality: very clear with the bass standing out. There are a couple of surprising omissions: Substitute, I'm a Boy, Happy Jack and Squeeze Box. These could have been fitted on to CD1, which is 58 mins. Also do we need both studio and live versions of I'm Free and Pinball Wizard? But there are some interesting deeper cuts, some of which are only available on expanded editions of albums. Also, I'd never heard before Eminence Front, where Pete Townshend takes up funk to quite good effect.

A Bargain
Magnificent addition to my thousands of cd, vinyl and cassettes. Plus books, dvds etc. While I have as many of The Whos music it was a nice addition to my collection. Including the extended My Generation.I've been listening to The Who for almost years and seen them live.I would highly recommend this to every young person who's just been introduced to this amazing band. It's the best new compilation out there. And may I say ....I call that a bargain, the best anyone can have!

Another Greatest Hits release.
It seems that record companies are having to recycle classic bands back catalogues and greatest hits due to the dirge of new music for the young who don't good music when they hear it...would rather listen to Rap or pop orientated music with a limited life span. Anyway, enough of the rant about the industry. What you get is The 'Oo in all their glory again. Interesting few choices which lift it above other Greatest Hits releases and of course with this you get the third disc with live tracks some of which have been released before and some not. Could have been a Greatest Hits of live music over three cds which would have rated it five stars. One star taken off for another package of hits. Good for first time buyers at the price.

BARGAIN!
Another day, another Who Compilation. But this one is a bit different. You got two discs of studio recordings and a disc of live stuff. So, there is a handful of essential songs missing but there is a number of great songs you wouldn't normally find on a compilation. This is a decent overview of the groups career. You got A sides, B sides, album tracks and live recordings. All for around a fiver. Packaging isn't bad either for the price. To quote the guys themselves: Bargain.

Great value
Don't expect to get all the best The Who songs on three cds for a fiver, but a lot of them are on here, as well as a few slightly deeper cuts and a cd of live material, some of which I've not come across before. All in all, excellent value a a great place to start if you don't know their stuff

Not the usual compilation!!
Excellent compilation!! Great price!! We all have our favourites, a lot of mine aren't here either, but it's great see such a different selection and a whole lot of "forgotten" masterpieces like Daltreys Here for More, Entwistles Trick of the Light and Townshends So Sad About Us, Rael, and Getting in Tune. Also as a previous reviewer said the live cd is worth the money alone!!

Another compilation
This compilations first 2 CDs cover mostly their career in the 70s to 80s. But this isn't a greatest hits package as it contains quite a few lesser tracks. In addition there is a live CD which seems to cover quite a bit of Tommy from various sources - some are from the official bootleg series. There is no booklet. So other than what's given, there is no idea where some are from. For example, 2 are listed as "Live in Canada" from 2013.Overall, still a good - and cheap - compilation. Wouldn't recommend for first time Who buyers though.

ONE OF THE BEST CD COMPILATIONS TO COME OUT BY THE WHO IN THE US EVER!!!!
this nice digi pack 3 cd set consists of a fantastic selection of who tracks for the real DIE HARD WHO FANS like myself & like i have been for well over 40 years now, this is obviously by the track listing no standard run of the mill cheap greatest hits package for the upteenth time, this 3 cd set consists of a lot of FANTASTIC, GREAT KILLER who nuggets from the 60s and 1970s that only die hards like myself really liked as well as the huge household hits the band have released over a 55 year period now, many casual who fans are not aware of some tracks that have been special to me since young childhood like THE GOODS GONE, MUCH TO MUCH,CIRCLES ( INSTANT PARTY) RUN RUN RUN, SO SAD ABOUT US,ARMENIA CITY IN THE SKY, TATTOO, REAL PART 1 &2,HERE FOR MORE,IM ONE, HOWEVER MUCH I BOOZE, TRICK OF THE LIGHT,as well on disc #3 we get fantastic live tracks from LEEDS (70) SHEPPERTON STUDIOS (1978) & one of my personal favorite live who shows LIVE AT THE YOUNG VIC 1971 (LONDON UK) great live versions of NAKED EYE (1971) MAGIC BUS ( LEEDS 1970), the JOHNNY KID & THE PIRATES live version of SHAKIN ALL OVER, & with all the hundreds of live who boots on cd & vinyl i have collected over the decades i can go on and one but those are the 3 live highlights for me on disc #3, as far as im concerned we could lose ( ITS NOT ENOUGH & OLD RED WINE) ON DISC #2 and replace it with that great studio version of the amazing who track pete was working on in 1970 WATER that could have been thrown on the end of disc #2 and one more track from face dances(1981) or its hard (1982) like ANOTHER TRICKY DAY (1981) or IVE KNOWN NO WAR (1982) but then again regarding the 3 discs and how the tracks are spread across them the song selection is in chronological order so i see im a bit off, just would have been great if that gem WATER had made this set, anyway the remastering makes this cd set sound fantastic!!!, small booklet with some liner notes come with this & its all packaged in a nice nifty little digi pack, its a win hands down set at a great price especially for those that just know the hits, my last little miff with this is i feel they could have used a nice AWESOME , KILLER live WHO shot from the 60s or 70s ( like they do on a lot of the bootleg lp sleeves or cd inlays) for the sleeve instead of this lightbulb but that is small stuff, im very happy i got this, im very happy this was released and its a fantastic compilation and you can take that from a guy who has been a who freak for well over 40 years now!, also i have a few great live versions of THE RELAY from the early 1970s i wish was used for disc #3 instead of the live 2006 version of that song but hey at least its here, one last thing i love all music WHO but i did not like that endless wire album back in 06 as well as the two tracks released back in 04 but i must plug the whos 2019 lp/cd called WHO!!!!!!!!!!!! if you have not checked that out yet take it from me, no it does not sound like THE WHO OF THE 60S,70S OR EARLY 80S but a killer WHO record for last year 2019, i was SHOCKED by it as i did not think mr PETE TOWNSHEND still had it in him to deliver such a record, sadly with what 2020 turned into the who have had to postpone touring this great record..........

Big Hits, Deep Cuts and Live on 3 CD Digipack
No cracked Digipack. 2 CD Anthology of singles, album cuts big hits and deep tracks. 3rd CD is live tracks. I like that there are 22 deep tracks here not to be found in other compilations still in print.
