Great for hamsters
So I was skeptical from the previous reviews, I got this for my hamster as an upgrade from the dreaded 10 gallon tank. It was a little tricky to put together the bar spacing is perfect for my Syrian and it is a little small as per hamster guidelines so I don't see how a rat can fit in here with toys and such. Boomer loves it, and I even kept the ramp because he couldn't find the food. Everyone's review on the food bowl is 100% correct. It is way too deep for any small animal. They have to climb all the way in and still stretch down. Bars seem cheaply coated but I don't mind, they do have to be adjusted just a little as they bend out of shape and its light weight. Also PICK IT UP FROM THE BOTTOM as stated before! I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend to anyone with a Syrian hamster on a budget (those other tanks are $150 😧.)

Perfect As My Rats Second Cage
I bought this cage as a secondary cage for my four female rats for when I'm cleaning their big cage. (A double critter nation) I thought it would also be good to use as a hospital cage should I ever need it if one of my girls were to get sick and need to be quarantined. This cage is perfect for female rats as it has the 1/2 inch bar spacing. I didn't use the ramp since I felt it just took up too much space and my girls have no problem climbing to the shelf. The shelf and the food bowl holder are nice features since it gives my girls some place to climb on and a place to hide under. Plus, I can put food in the bowl for them if they're going to be in there for a little while. It's a great size as a secondary cage but I definitely would not recommend it as a rat's primary cage because it's just too small for long term housing. It does attach easily to the base, but for added security, I used zip ties to hold the cage onto the base.

Not bad for Syrians, still a little small.
I bought this for the Syrian Hamster I will be buying next month, and I have to say, I'm impressed! It's very large compared to any other hamster cage out there! I do see it being a little small for rats, but for hammys it's perfect! Setting up was very easy, only took me about 10 minutes. I struggled with getting the ramp in the most. However, I think I will be removing the ramp and additional level because it takes up so much room! With them in there is hardly enough room for a wheel, toys, food bowl (the bowl it comes with is way too big), etc. and space for the little guy to run around. So I've invested in a smaller second level to replace it. Over all it's great for the price! UPDATE: I've had my hamster for a few months now and overall it's okay, there's room for 2 hide outs and a 8.5in wheel. But that's about it, it is NOT chew proof, she has managed to chew away at the plastic base and chip some of the paint off the wires too. Chewing IS a sign of boredom for hamsters so a solution would be to add more toys/boredom breakers. However, there is not enough room to add anything else without over crowding the cage. So if you can afford to go bigger, I highly reccomend it

best HAMSTER cage
Fist things first, this is NOT a rat cage but it’s good for two reasons A.hamster cage or B. If you need to isolate a rat. (trust me I had rats.) first of all rats need a tall cage for climbing and all the toys they need this cage you put a hammock and one or two toys and it’s full and theres no room for two rats to really run and play. You NEED to rats they are so social one rat is only okay if it really won’t get along with any rat. Even then you will need a lot of toys to make up fo that. If this was a temporary cage for one may two small rats I think it would be okay. NOW HAMSTERS, whole different story. I got a female teddy bear Syrian hamster. Females are a bigger then males. She’s such a sweet girl and needed a good cage, she’s too big for tubes and we didn’t want a bin cage(that I highly recommend, please look into) and as most hamster owners know and all should know hamsters need a big cage need in mind this cage I wish was a little better as you will see later in my review. But other wise amazing hamster cage! I can fit 3 hides and the big hamster weel she needs plus she still has running room. She’s so happy on her new cage. Also to mention it’s affordable. It’s so easy to clean! Saying all this there’s still some problems. 1. The ramp, I actually put it in a ferret cage because I didn’t wanna waste it but it sure is a waste in this cage. Fist of all it took up so much room for what it is there’s no point. And it didn’t even stay on correctly. So what I did is take the bowl out and used the hole for the bowl and put something under it so she could go up. I really wish that hole wasn’t there and it was just a full platform. 2. I wish it was bigger or they offered a bigger one or a way to connect two. I will post more pictures later but please do look into this cage vs a bin cage for your hamster and as a isolation cage for a new rat or for a aggressive Rat

Perfect Size for a SYRIAN HAMSTER
We got a Syrian hamster, and bought a Kaytee My First Home Habitat (2-Story) for Hamster. It was TOO SMALL. Syrians are too big for that cage, which was 14.5" x 10" x 14.5". It might be meant for a dwarf hamster. This "Rat Home" is WONDERFUL for a Syrian hamster! The dimensions of this cage are 25.5" x 12.5" x 14" - essentially twice as wide as the small cage. We got an 8.5-inch wheel for it, which fits nicely and looks MUCH more comfortable for our hamster, whose back seemed to arch backward a bit on the smaller wheel (the small cage came with a 5-1/2" wheel). In the small cage, our hamster had stopped using the wheel and chewed incessantly on the bars. Right away in this new home our hamster runs on the new wheel all the time and doesn't chew the bars. We placed the second level lower than pictured in the photo, and our hamster has no trouble with the ramp. The bar spacing is 1/2", same as on the smaller cage. This cage is just right for a Syrian hamster - not luxuriously oversized. As such, I would think it could be too small for a rat.

Excellent for a Syrian Hamster!!
Excellent for a Syrian hamster! We went through two other cages until we found this one, both Crittertrail cages. Neither one gave our hamster enough room and they were extremely hard to clean with all the tubes. It's really hard to find an appropriate sized cage (360 sq inches or more) for a hamster in the United States unless you buy a tank, which I did not want. This one is easy to clean, simple, and gives a hamster plenty of room to live a good life (although it is slightly under the recommended 360 sq inches- but as I said it's really hard to find a cage like that in the US). We love our little guy and wanted him to have a good home! This cage also is big enough to add an 8 inch wheel.

WAY too small!!
I ordered this for my Syrian hamster after reading some reviews saying that it was perfect for a Syrian. It is NOT. It is way too small- Syrians need much more floor space, and I was really surprised when I got it in the mail and saw how small it really is. (And if it's too small for a hamster than it's definitely too small for a rat.) It was a waste of money. I used it for a couple of months until I had the money to get a bigger cage. Don't waste your money on this, your beloved pets deserve better!!

This is too expensive for the quality
This is a temporary home for baby rats, but overall is a better product to house mice or a hamster. The overall issue I have with the product is the quality. The ladder is too flexible and thin. They will be easily destroyed by the small pet that is intended to live here, the rat. I actually had to bend the ladder into place because it was floating in the air when I clipped it in. The shelf and bowl seem to be made of a stronger plastic, but I feel like the bowl is too big and wastes space that would be beneficial for other items. At most this cage is worth $50. I do like the deep pan, but it would be hard to add a wheel in here that was made for rats. Due to the size. I think a carrying handle on top would have been a nice addition if you need to pick up the cage and move it or to put it in another room.

Narrow wire spacing is ideal for rats.
This is the 4 th one of these cages I have. I like the shelf with the hole in it that holds the feed cup so that it can’t be upset. I like the narrow 1/2” wire spacing for keeping my rats safely in. Th clips hold the two sections together well, are made of metal & unchewable. It has a deep pan to keep litter in. I keep one of these cages as a change over cage, clean with litter, so all I have to do is transfer my pet rat into the clean cage & then clean the soiled one ready for use again. It is an ideal cage for one rat, but I think up to 3 rats could certainly be housed in this. It comes with a ramp, shelf & food dish. The shelf is a little tricky to put in, but I find it easier to do when you have the two pieces separated before putting it together. The ramp edge where it attaches to the shelf has to be bent to shape to make it stay on. I didn’t have to do that with my first two. But all in all a satisfactory cage if you only have one or two rats. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

No apta para roedores, rompen bandeja
Menos de dos meses bastó para que mis ratas hicieran dos hoyos en la bandeja, por lo que veo no soy la única, una lástima porque no fue muy económica que digamos y esperaba mejor calidad
