Excellent!
I have literally bought over fifty books and dvd's to help my kids learn Chinese and this workbook is the best of all of them. It is packed with vocabulary and it introduces new characters after teaching kids the radicals, or building blocks, of the Chinese characters. It also forces them to pay attention and learn the meaning as well as the written character. By the end of the book, the student should be capable of writing simple sentences in Chinese. My daughter is six years old and she loves learning the Chinese characters and writing them out. She also loves the different exercises that force her to comprehend everything that she has learned. My son is only four and this book is not quite for his level, but he is also learning characters along with his sister. This book is a godsend for me and makes it much easier to teach my kids Chinese. I cannot recommend this book enough for really teaching children Chinese. This is not some simple "hello", "goodbye" "thank you" type workbook. This is the real deal and it teaches kids complicated words and concepts that they need to push themselves to get a handle on. By the time my daughter finishes this workbook, I am sure that she will be able to have basic conversations with other kids in Chinese and she will also be capable of writing full sentences in Chinese. This workbook is a great base for learning Chinese.

One of the better Chinese workbook/textbook sets I've found... though they really need to be purchased as a set
Pros:1. Lots of nice simple phrases and words that are appropriate for beginners.2. Lots of pictures, easy for someone who's a native language speaker or has a teacher to follow along withCons:1. This is really going to be meaningless unless you buy the textbook as well.2. The activities range from like something a three-year-old might do (drawing a line from a number to a picture) to something more appropriate for a much older age-group (some of the words that need to be traced for example)This is actually one of the better systems I've found for beginning Mandarin for kids... however, it's still not as good as similar second-language material I've found for other languages.

good, but you need more
This is a workbook where you can trace radicals and characters, but it needs explanatory material. You need to know the meaning of what you are tracing. (Maybe I missed the text!) A lot of Chinese books show how to draw characters, but need to get more into how to use them (like in sentences). You learn best by practical application.

I think it's a great work book
I like the work but mostly because as an adult when you're trying to learn a new language you have to approach it from a child's prospective and this workbook allows you to get into the habit of remembering certain things or how to put things in sentences sometimes when you learn a language you can forget in these kind of work books allow you to start remembering

Chinese Made Easy for Kids Workbook1
Picked this up for an immigrant mother who wanted to re-teach her 2 children the language they were born with.It is simple and basic for children as well as for mother, as she is learning English from her US born children and her children arelearning to read, write and speak Mandarin. Excellent workbook for both English and Mandarin.

... my daughter's Skype Mandarin lesson so it is extremely useful.
It's the exact same textbook used during my daughter's Skype Mandarin lesson so it is extremely useful.

So-so book
This book is so-so. It would be a good book if they showed you the stoke order of the words. Without the stoke order, it is pretty much useless without a native Chinese person. The bottom line is this, to learn Chinese you must have a native speaker, plain and simple … I can not make it any clearer than that. Books can only take you so far, even the most basic

Only as addition to textbook
Be advised that this should not be purchased without the textbook. I bought it as a stand-alone product and it was not understandable without the textbook.

great beginners book
The book is great - full of ideas, but if you are not mother-tongue mandarin, it helps to have the disk and perhaps get your hands on a teacher's book too. The workbook is excellent too, and matches and consolidates all that you learn in the book.
