I hate cutting mats... but
... when you have this little contraption... it is easy enough. I have used it for regular paper trimming as well. Do yourself a favor and grab some of the spare blades. One thing I appreciate about Amazon is the record of what I bought and when I bought it. I usually forget what type of blades I need... and end up getting the wrong one but after buying the first set reorder was a click.

Barely fit for purpose
Arrived 2 days late which is par for the course with Amazon; over-promise and deliver...whenever.Moving on, I had already discovered that the market for mount board cutters was basically divided between super-budget (this one, entry point about £30) and professional tools such as Logan (entry point £200+). I wanted this to mount some of my own artwork just for myself, just using cheap clipframes, so this seemed like a good deal given that it included an A3 cutting mat.Hmm.I realised why it was so 'affordable' within 30 seconds of starting to use it; the cutter doesn't slide along the ruler. It slides for a few centimetres then just jams. I haven’t been able to determine of the ruler is deformed but I think it must be – just not engineered very precisely.Cutting a piece of A6 board I found that the cutter would manage the short sides acceptably but would climb when cutting the long edges. It is really obvious on A6, so it must be disastrous on A4 or A3. The final result was acceptable for my purposes, but I wouldn’t consider using it for anything to give away.Sometimes, with a following wind, I create a painting or print that I consider just about acceptable enough to give as a gift to an unsuspecting family member, and I was thinking of starting to mount one or two. I wouldn’t use this Jakar product for that however; I have already decided to save up for an entry-level Logan system at some point in the future as the quality of the output from this just doesn’t cut it.So, should you buy this?If it's for you and you are tolerant of a few edges that are not 100% square – and you are on a budget – then go ahead. But if you are preparing work for selling or giving as gifts and have high standards, then no. In this case you’re going to have to bite the bullet and fork out for the professional kit. I’ve done this with my DIY tools and never regretted it, so will do so with this in time.Buy cheap, buy twice.

A hobbyist tool that works okay
Purchased this with some trepidation as some of the reviews are pretty damning BUT the cutter does work with some limitations.Firstly if you want this for professional / retail purposes then don’t buy it. The cutter itself retails for about £13 so go figure. I used it to cut my own mounts for prints to show at my camera club and it gives an acceptable finish imo.I botched a board by being too aggressive with the blade - it is critical to go light and easy on multiple passes. Too much pressure and it will go off line - the blades are typical of most metal manufacture today but you get what you pay for. The tracking mechanism works ok but again is not 100% accurate against the rule line. The board is fine, although funniest thing has to be the instructions on the cutter NOT to use on a cutting board but on old card…..lol……my guess is that this is to stop the blade bending as it enters a more resistant material. So it’ll do the job I want it to do but I am not going to win any prizes for my precision mounts!

Picture framing
It does everything I expected of it and it’s fairly easy to use

Works, but takes getting used to
This works, but it does takes getting used to. I wasted a couple of blades and boards learning to use this. The blades are not very thick, so prone to flexing if you use too much pressure. That causes the cut to go off the marked line, if you are cutting a bevel edge, this does not look nice at all. I need to use gentle pressure and multiple cuts to get a straight line.Aligning the blade to the marked line take practice and this changes because as the blade wears out, the cutting line changes. It is cheaper than the other “professional” cutters, it does the job, but takes practice and patience.

Great buy
Item arrived quickly. Great set for trying your own mount cutting. Rule is designed to use with the cutter and a much better option than using your own standard metal rule.

45 degree blade does not cut straight
Should have come with a chocolate teapot. The 45 degree blade has too much room for movement, thus impossible to cut a straight line. A useless purchase.

Good quality for the price.
Arrived very quickly. Quality seems OK. Cutter sticks a little. Run a candle along the rule and problem solved. Blades doesn't last very long.

Problème entre la reinure de la latte et celle du coupe papier
La reinure de la latte métallique est trop étroite pour y emboîter correctement le coupe papier, résultat il faut forcer et la partie plastique sur le coupe papier qui devrait s'emboîter casse très rapidement
