Life-Changing for an Autistic Teen
I took a chance and bought the Vibes earbuds after days of going back and forth, reading reviews and watching videos about them. For some background, I have autism and with that comes sensory problems, primarily with sounds and noise levels. For me, most background noise as well has voices are amplified when in comparison to how other people experience sound in their environment. I have had to leave rooms and sometimes buildings entirely, and have had outbursts at times, all due to sounds and noise overwhelming me. It’s been like this all my life, but I bought these ear buds to hopefully make a change to this uncomfortable reality. Here are my thoughts organized into four categories. Noise Reduction: The main feature of these earbuds WORKS. LIKE. MAGIC. I had my doubts at first, but once I switched out my silicone caps for a smaller size (I have small ears, thankfully there’s three options for size) and once I put them in, it was like I was living in an entirely different world— so much so that I nearly cried. Background noise was diminished significantly! Voices of my family weren’t booming in my ears! It was emotional and I could hear my surroundings at a comfortable volume for the first time in my life. Noise reduction works great with these! (Please note that these are not meant to cancel or block noise entirely, they’re meant just to reduce noise!) Sound Quality: Voices and other sounds I’m meant to hear like music are able to be heard clearly when the earbuds are inserted correctly. There’s no muffled sound like with other aids such as ear defenders! One downside, however, is that my voice and own sounds seem to be a bit amplified in my head, but not severely to the point where I have to dock a star from my review. Comfort: I sometimes forget these are in my ears, as they don’t start to feel uncomfortable after hours of wear like most ear buds do! These stay secure once you’ve put them in correctly. I’ve found myself having to re-adjust them at times, but only because of my own errors. Once they’re in right, you’ll probably never have to touch or push them around. I’ve found that to be a problem with other earbuds, but not these! I don’t really like things in my ears but these I don’t mind. I recommend you clean them before putting them in just as a precaution. These are nice and comfortable when worn correctly! Discreetness: You can imagine that from afar these are fairly discreet. If you have small ears like mine, do not expect for people not to see these when they’re a closer distance to you. I had one relative take a glance and spot them within a few seconds, so if you’re looking for something completely hidden, these buds are not. I do not mind, however, as these are more discreet than most options for noise reduction. Overall, these should work great for someone like me who struggles with noise levels in daily life, but would like to reduce the noise rather than block everything out. I recommend these for people on the autism spectrum and those with sensory processing issues. These changed the way I hear the world, and the way that I experience life as an autistic person. I no longer have to fear oncoming meltdowns due to uncomfortable noise! Vibes are amazing.

These ear plugs are a lifeline for me as a sensitive person!
I LOVE these earplugs! They help me manage my auditory sensitivity better than any other method of sound reduction I have tried (and I have tried many, from many earplugs, to ear defenders, to noise-cancelling devices, to thick headbands, etc...). I walk, bike, and ride public transportation a lot, so these have been indispensable for bus/train rides and walks/bike rides along busy roads, which without these earplugs would leave me with a pounding tension headache and frazzled nerves. They are also wonderful to use inside stores, restaurants, and coffee shops that are crowded and play loud music. Here is a list of the many things I love about them: - So comfortable! They don't leave that "suction cup" feeling that other earplugs have one me. They aren't sweaty with painful pressure points like some headphones/earmuffs/ear defenders. - Easy to insert and remove. I don't have to roll them up like the disposable foam earplugs - Discreet. People don't know that I am wearing earplugs when I am out and about. I can even have brief interactions and hear people just fine (although my own voice sounds strange, as it generally does when one speaks while wearing ear protection) - Portable. Easy to carry around in its case. They aren't bulky like headphones. - Easy to clean. I have found soap and water do just fine. - Retains sound quality while reducing volume. One thing I noticed was that my original pair came with a leash to which I can connect them, but this package did not. I like using the leash when I wear them while sleeping so that I don't lose them. I'll just take extra care of my current leash so that I don't lose or break it. These earplugs are best for navigating day-to-day life with moderate sound reduction and good sound-quality retention. I would not recommend them for instances wherein you need very strong sound reduction. This is not a knock on the product, as this is not the intention of the product. If I needed sound protection or extremely effective sound-reduction, such as if I were alongside VERY busy roads or needing to focus extra hard, I would reach for other methods. However, for almost every other circumstance, these are absolutely perfect. I'm so happy to have found this product.

For misophonia sufferers
This review is for those with misophonia who want to know if these earplugs will help them out. (For those who don’t know, misophonia, meaning literally ‘hatred of sound’, is a condition where certain sounds cause an incredibly strong negative reaction in the listener, often an overwhelming rage or panic.) Just so you know for your own comparison, my triggers are primarily chewing, smacking, crunching, slurping (all eating sounds) as well as tapping and clicking. Also, as a note, my misophonia is not as severe as others. I don’t usually feel rage, just strong annoyance and sometimes panic, and a need to leave the room or area. First off, as earplugs, the Vibes work as they are described. They are definitely earplugs, where most sound is muted and quieter then normal. However, certain frequencies come through very clear, almost as if you were not wearing them. Talking is definitely much easier to understand than normal earplugs. However, it has to be loud enough. Soft speakers do not usually come through. For some reason whispers come through better, probably because they are at the right frequency. As regarding misophonia: for me they are partly useful. In some ways, they are fantastic for my needs, and in others they do not help. It depends on the kind of sound, but thankfully, for most chewing and tapping, the sound is blocked. I tested the Vibes in several areas where I often get triggers: - Office environment. The earplugs fantastically block out clicking and typing. If this is your main trigger, get these. However, it is a little hard to hear speech when someone comes over to talk to me, probably because I work in a quiet office and people speak softly. I usually take the earplugs out to hear them. - Public transit. I tried these on BART (the subway of the Bay Area) and they did what earplugs should: all sounds were muted. The sounds of the train car and of other people were all quieter. And amazingly, I could still hear my companion talk to me! Speech, especially close by, comes through these very well. - Live theater. A man was crunching near me, but for some reason, the earplugs still let his crunches partially through. Disappointing. Also, I could hear what was said on stage clearly, but the music was too muted for me. I had to take out the earplugs so I could fully enjoy it. - Movie theater. Popcorn crunches were blocked completely, crinkles of candy bags were not. The movie was clearly audible though of course the sound was not as clear. I wore these at several movies and they definitely helped. - Religious meeting. When I used normal earplugs before, they blocked out everything, so I could not hear anything spoken. These were where the Vibes shined. All non-speech sounds were blocked, especially gum smacking and other random noise, though paper crinkling usually comes through rather clearly. However, I can hear the talks and commenters perfectly. - At home. When another person is eating, these block out the sounds effectively. It is a little harder to hear speech because the talking and environment is all quieter than when I’m out. I can usually hear someone talking to me but it’s as quiet as a whisper. The TV is also difficult to hear unless it is turned up. (Still worth it to block the sounds.) Keep in mind, because these are earplugs, your own talking and eating is louder. If you are triggered by your own eating, be aware of that. Lastly, the fit and comfort is pretty good. It depends on the size of your ear of course, but it helps that they come with a few sizes. For me, I tend to push them in too far and they start to hurt, so I just need to remember to push and then tug them out a bit to the right spot. TL;DR These let in talking though it’s muted. For other sounds, some come in, some do not. For example, a man was crunching a bag of chips next to me. I put these earplugs in, and the crunching did not get through (yes!), but the crinkling of the bag did (aw!). Whether these earplugs work for you depends on your environment and your particular triggers.

Best concert ear plugs!
These ear plugs are great for concerts! They block enough sound to protect your hearing, while still allowing you to enjoy the concert. I bought these for a metal concert I was going to. I loved how small the container was, it fit in my pocket easily. The volume at the concert was pretty loud, but I felt good using these that I wouldn't damage my hearing. They work better than the orange squishy ones because they work well for smaller ears, they don't fall out, and they still let you enjoy the music. I definitely recommend these!

For My Fellow Neurodivergent Folks!
I am a recently diagnosed autistic woman, and for a long time I've struggled to be in public spaces, partly because of my sensitivity to sound. I spent some time trying to find earplugs that would be helpful, specifically looking for reviews by other neurodivergent folks. These earplugs had a number of good reviews, so I decided to give them a try. Let me just say, these have been very helpful for me personally. I can see these not working well enough in some situations or for some people who are extremely noise-sensitive, if you need something that is truly noise canceling. I will probably also be buying noise-canceling headphones for very loud situations like parades, festivals, lawn mowing, etc., or for when I'm experiencing sensory overload. You can definitely still hear with these in, and carry conversations with people around you, but the pitch, the intensity of the sound, is toned down. For me, in most situations, this is very, very helpful, and makes me feel so much more calm. While wearing these, sunglasses, and a hat, I was finally able to go to the grocery store and I didn't feel nearly as overwhelmed as I normally do. I was actually almost completely relaxed, which is impressive. The earplugs are very comfortable (I actually realized that one of my ear canals fits the medium size tip, and my other fits the small size, but once I set them up right, they were perfect!). I can wear them for long periods of time and pretty much forget that I'm wearing them. I can see these being very helpful for concerts or other live music events, drag shows, comedy shows, theater, etc. These are also decently discreet (I got the clear type) for those who are self-conscious, especially if you're wearing a hat as well. From a distance, no one will know you're wearing anything in your ears. These are a great alternative to disposable earplugs; much more comfortable, longer lasting, and less noticeable. I will say, and this is only a slight problem for me, the sound the carrying case makes when you unscrew the top (and put it back on) is a little squeaky. It's that metal-on-metal squeaky sound. The sound, of course, does not last long, so for me this isn't a big deal, but it isn't perfect for people like me who are sensitive to high-pitched noises. Another thing I will say is, the sound of the earplugs knocking together in the carrying case while I walked around was bothersome to me, but that is easy to fix - simply keep the earplugs in one of the tiny plastic bags that the different tip sizes come in, and then put that bag in the carrying case. This will make it silent. Other than that, I really like the carrying case. It's convenient and portable, and I love that it comes with a keyring attachment, so you can bring them everywhere. In conclusion, I highly recommend these for many neurodivergent people who are sensitive to sound and need the general noise around them dialed down, while still being able to hear and hold conversations; but they are not fully noise-canceling, so you may need to purchase fully noise canceling headphones as well.

A Good Alternative To Foam....But Keep The Foam Around Just In Case.
THE GOOD: Comfortable fit and don't dry out the external ear canals as foam earplugs do. Easy to clean, carrying case is durable. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: They don't stay in place as effectively as foam, requiring adjustment 2-3 times (or more) in an hour, nor do they dampen loud sounds (e.g. the shrieking sound of a lightrail car traveling through a tunnel) as well as foam. Easy to lose, carrying case is too bulky to fit in the "pocketwatch" pocket of my jeans, and the cap's rubber seal means you can't simply pop it off to take the plugs in or out quickly. OVERALL: If I want to experience the sensory sensation of being in a library, albeit with a head cold, foam earplugs are good for that. If I want to make ambient noise (e.g. the sounds of traffic) more tolerable and miss only a little bit of what someone is saying when they're talking to me, I use Vibes. And I do like them.

Excellent earplugs for me!
I sort of consider myself an earplug expert. Because I’ve relied on and used them for over 40 years. As someone who worked in a very loud machine environment, earplugs were essential for protecting my ears. In all that time I’ve tried so many earplugs, but found these to be exceptional. If you have to wear earplugs all day long or for sleeping, it’s hard to find an earplug that’s both comfortable and protects your hearing. The foam earplugs are superior for blocking loud noise, but wearing them for any length of time causes sweat and moisture to be blocked, causing Ear issues like itching. These earplugs are the only ones I’ve found that I can wear the entire night without any ear issues and still do an excellent job of blocking outside noise. I now have a few pair of them, always keep some at the bedside and other locations when needed. I have not had one single negative issue wearing these earplugs for the last two years. They may not work for everyone, but for me, they are absolutely excellent.

Unsafe design, round tip allows earplug to be sucked into ear canal
TLDR: The round shaped tip allows and encourages the earplug to get sucked into the ear canal deeper than is easy to remove and, in my case, required a trip to urgent care and the associated bills. Full review: As a musician, I've used all manner of earplugs. For day-to-day band practice and going to concerts, I tend to use non-custom hi-fi musician's earplugs like the Vibes. After many years of using my preferred brand, I wanted to try something new because I've never loved the ear-feel of my preferred brand, but they do the job and I can rely on them. Reviews lead me to Vibes suggesting they were very comfortable so I decided to give them a shot. In every other brand of ear-hole-sized product I've used, I've always been happy with the standard, medium size. So when these arrive with the medium tips on, I just tried them on immediately. And upon putting them in my ears, they immediately got sucked in deeper into my ear canal to the point where I could not remove them with my fingers. I got one out with some careful work with needle-nosed pliers but the other one was too deep and I quickly went to urgent care to get it removed safely and professionally – at a significant cost to my wallet. Every other type of similar earplug I've used has a flared design where keeps getting bigger so unless you're using far to small a tip, it just reaches a place where it can't go further. These use a round design which, in retrospect, I should have known was a terrible idea. There's a rule regarding products that you insert into orifices, they're supposed to have a flared end so they can't be sucked up into that orifice. This product does not follow that rule and therefore is very unsafe. The varied sizes of the tips don't mitigate this safety problem. In the case of the ear canal, it has hard cartilage outer section and then a soft canal internally. I can easily imagine a situation where someone carefully fit these earplugs into the hard cartilage area and then in the jostling at a concert, the plug gets pushed in past its widest point to where it now gets sucked in deeper. I've seen no other earplug brand that uses such a round shape, rather than tapered, such so that a comfortable insertion is just a hairs breath away from a painful medical emergency. Seriously, avoid at all costs. I was pretty excited for some more comfortable plugs but I guess I'll go back to etymotics or try another one of the new players.
