Heavy, High Quality Rolling Pin
My husband got this as a surprise for me when all of my pasta making equipment was stolen in a break-in. I was heartbroken, but this amazing rolling pin is a huge upgrade over my last, more traditional, rolling pin. It's not only got a great heft to it - not so heavy your arms get tired, but heavy enough that you know it's quality - the fine grain on the wood is absolutely silky smooth. That means that I don't have to over-flour my dough when I'm rolling it out; it doesn't stick to the pin! Obviously very wet/sticky doughs will always give you trouble, but this is the best natural defense against holes and breakages forming. Plus I love the french tapered style rather than the handle style - smooth motions are considerably easier and I don't "stub my knuckles" or burn my forearms trying for a consistent roll. I'm very pleased!

Perfect and NO sticker!
After reading some of the other views I was a little nervous ordering this but my fears turned out to be baseless. It was beautifully smooth out of the box. As for the sticker, it came with the barcode printed on a paper sleeve which slid off the dowel, so that issue seems to have been resolved.

Nice Pin,
Who ever operated the lathe sucks. The pin I got is uneven not terribly but uneven none the less. And the sticker they used to as the label is a pain in the ass to remove. Now on to the good. It is a nice piece of wood does the job that it's intended to do and does it well. I sanded the sharp edges and hit it with a few coats of pure tung oil and finally a coat of tung oil finish. Now it is hard as a rock picked up a few ounces, feels good in the hand and looks really nice. Got a nice honey golden finish. Should last a good twenty years easy.I live in an apartment with sparse counter space and wanted something small enough to not get underfoot when not in use and function well in confined space. Yet big enough to do the job at hand. This fits the bill nicely. I drive trucks up to fifteen hours a day 4 nights on 3 nights off, I often don't have time to stop for meal breaks because of traffic. So I make pastys to eat as they can be eaten while driving. I use the pin to roll out the shells. Which are normally about the size of large plates before folding over the contents. Before this I was using a thermos, now I've got a nice pin and very happy with it.

Smooth and sturdy multi-use pin
This is just what I wanted - a nice plain rolling pin. The outer surface is smooth and the pin is substantial and feels good in my hands. The length is perfect and generous enough for rolling out a large rectangle of dough. It's working great for rolling out my pastries! This is a really nice all-purpose rolling pin and I don't feel like I need to buy a bunch of other pins for different tasks. In fact, I got rid of my other two rolling pins and this one will supply all my needs moving forward.

Great until I had to wash it
Bought this because it was a top recommended rolling pin. Was great until I went to clean it. Used it once and washed with soap and water to get ride of the excess flour and dough. Once it dried I was left with two large cracks.

Perfect roller for the occasional baker
This roller pin was exactly what my wife needed to get her baking done. It's exactly what the description says it is, a piece of maple wood tapered down on the ends. I couldn't be more satisfied because honestly she's happy and doesn't complain anymore when baking using a solid marble 12 pound roller pin. It's great for anyone with solid stone counter tops because using stone on stone can actually damage each surface and leave microscopic stone particles in the food you're preparing (nothing to be concerned about...it's just extra minerals, right?), and aside from the occasional chipped tooth I wasn't too concerned. But honestly, this is a far better choice for people who prepare baked food on granite or quartz counter tops because it won't chip away at your counter top. I'd buy this one again solely based upon the consistent 5 star review track record. I hope others will find this review helpful, good luck with your roller pin search.*Udate*I found a similar product at Bed Bath and Beyond for $12. It's also maple and is slightly thicker all around compared to this one. I'm still satisfied with this roller. Everytime i wash it I'm quite impressed at how well it repels water and stains. Overall, still 5 stars...as with most things, you get what you pay for and I'm thoroughly assured that the extra money paid for this roller will be worth it in the years to come.***second update, 28 November 2018***Still just as good as new. One conditioning trick is to rub the rolling pin with food grade mineral oil to keep it nice and conditioned. Other than that, it has lasted for several thanksgivings and Christmas’ with absolutely zero compaints. Would still purchase again.

So glad I bought this
Very solid, beautifully smooth. Like any wooden pin, it needs to be lightly maintained with a small application of conditioning oil every once and a while - a little more frequently when it is brand new (I use a small amount of coconut oil and it works well) as would be expected. Also makes an impressive threat to swing at unruly people who try to steal the cookie dough when you are not looking.

I don't think I'll ever buy a conventional rolling pin again
I never knew about these French rolling pins, but if it helped to roll out pie crusts that were actual circles, then I was all over it. It took me a while to figure out just HOW to use it to create those circles (I had to view a demonstration on YouTube). I love the tapered ends and the pin itself is a beautiful piece; no nicks, no blemishes, no warps. I read that you should condition it with some special oil but if not that, coconut oil is a good substitute. All it takes is a good wipe down with a damp cloth to clean (no submerging in the dishwater--again, who knew). My pin is a lot smaller in circumference (2-in?) than my old one, so it feels a little strange using it, but overall I'm very pleased.

Very nice
Its good (french-style) rolling pin with a nice weight and feel to it. I've had it for years and it is still going strong. No slivers or chips out of it, and it still rolls as well as one needs rolling.I also use wide rubber bands on each end to set a minimum roll depth. Works great. And make sure its not in eye-line when your spouse gets mad at you...

Stellar Roller
Very nicely made rolling pin. It's the perfect length and diameter for most of the things I bake. The surface right out of the bag is smooth and has no splinters. It appears this is rock Maple wood, which is even better since it is more durable. It comes untreated/uncoated, which is also nice - I suggest giving it a coat of butcher block oil before using. And extra bonus - it's made in Canada! (Although the made in Canada sticker was a pain to remove...)Great pin, I think this will last me a lifetime.

Could be used as a weapon..
This rolling pin is great! I used it to make noodles the other night (which is why I purchased it) and it worked awesome! My only concern is that now there is another heavy long item in my kitchen that my wife could beat me with :/.
