Breath taking...terrific
These are very old novels, the best part of not only this, but all the parts is that if you close your eyes, you can feel the scene. Much better than any phantom comic. Regarding this first part, there is a part where Guran tells a story to young Kit, about the chain that the twentieth Phantom keeps in the skull cave. That story is the part where kit learned the importance of patience. A must read for all Phantom fans.

Stories in Lee Falk's own words!
We get to read the story of the Phantom in Lee Falk's own words. Many of the stories have been published in Indrajal comics, so it was a great experience in reading these stories as originally envisoned by Mr. Falk.

It's reprint of the original Avon novel written by legend ...
It's reprint of the original Avon novel written by legend himself. This reprint is bigger in size than the first print but having more comfort to read. The textual description by Falk is marvelous and unmatched. A must have for any Phantom fan.

The Story of THE PHANTOM by Lee Falk Vol. 1
Who is the Phantom ? Why is he also known as The Ghost Who Walks & The Man Who Cannot Die? Is he really 400 years old? It is whispered that he who looks upon the Phantom's unmasked face will die instantly in agony. This masked hero is the nemesis of all those who practiced piracy cruelty greed injustice in all their forms & fear the mark sign of the skull.A must for any fan and hopefully new ones to come, before there was Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Daredevil , Spider-Man. The first costume hero was The Phantom!!!

Brilliant
I really enjoyed reading it. It is full of character and laughs. The first bit in my opinion is the best as it views the world from another angle.

The novel is based on the comic strips!
It would have been good if the novel would have started off with something about the author's background. For decades Lee Falk created these stories of a masked man who, for hundreds of years, fought crime on the high seas and elsewhere. Of course it was generational but the notion of a ghost who walks, a man who cannot die was born. Lee took his Phantom from stories about criminals let loose in the jungle that had to be apprehended to quirky tales of mechanical wonders and of princes that ruled their lands with an iron fist. Lee always wanted to be a novelist and not just a comic strip writer and he apparently got his wish.

The Ghost That Still Walks
While it annoying that the text isn't Justified, it is good of Hermes Press to finally give the world a reprint of the 15 Phantom novels, starting with this first one on the origin of the hero and his lineage. This is old school pulp hero goodness centered on a coming of age tale with a lot of good morals passed down from father to son. It's hard to believe this was released in the '70s as it is clearly of a much older time. And it shows. If you like superheroes, or are interested in The Phantom, you should definitely start here.
