Star Wars Trilogy: The Original Soundtrack Anthology

The packaging and items were in great condition. Couldn’t really see any scratches on the cds and played flawlessly. The booklet inside was in great condition. It had been opened too much. The outside box was a little warn, but it gave the box character. Thank you for a great product. As for the quality of the actual music, this version of the original trilogy is the best. I read reviews of this version compared to others (I also have a digital copy of the 1997 full score edition) and there is less tweaking with the sound. It sounds fuller and the music is balanced a lot better. Extremely enjoyed it.

As far as I could find, this is the most comprehensive original-trilogy 'Star Wars' soundtrack released *before* the 'Special Editions.' Nearly every score and song is here and unaltered, and the sound quality is 100% to mid-1990s CD standards. Furthermore, the tracks are mostly in film-appearance order (with the exception of the fourth disc, which contains "bonus" scores and songs from all three films in no particular order--material which simply wouldn't fit on the preceding three discs).One clear, and apparently unavoidable, drawback is the absence of the film-version of "Lapti Nek," the song played by the "live" band in Jabba the Hutt's palace. Liner notes claim this recording is lost, and a sub-standard studio-version appears in its place.Big bonus is the enclosed booklet, full of notes on each track, and samples of pre-film concept sketches.

I have seen all 6 Star Wars episodes at the theater since the first movie in 1977. The soundtracks for episodes 4, 5 and 6 helped make the movies be as great as they are. There have been some movies that the music just didn't quite match what was going on in the scene, and it can make a great movie into an okay movie. Using composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer or James Horner is a plus for any movie.If you have read this prior to today, 3-26-2015, I had mistakenly used the name John Horner instead of James Horner. Please forgive my error.

I have been watching Star Wars since I was a kid, and I never realized just how much I take the music for granted. John Williams is an amazing composer and watching the movie after listening to this album gave me a whole new perspective on the movie.

This is a very interesting soundtrack:-The Episode IV disc has the wrong takes on many tracks, but is crisper than the special edition disc-The Episode V disc is much gentler on the ears than the special edition disc, and seems to be better miced. However, it is missing some cues, such as Mynock Cave.-The Episode VI disc is missing some tracks, but boasts extremely high-quality remasters of tracks that sound DREADFUL on the special edition.-The bonus disc contains tracks that didn't fit on the other three, but unfortunately some are still missing from ESB and ROTJ-There's a huge booklet inside that shares John Williams' thoughts on his compositions and how he got his ideasOverall, this is an excellent buy if you love the Star Wars soundtracks. Even if you don't like Star Wars, it's still a good buy for classical music enthusiasts. The capturing of the sounds is much more raw and pure than modern orchestral recording setups provide for with their viciously over-miced engineering.However, you should still buy the Special Edition soundtracks if you want the whole picture, as many cues are missing from this one.

What can I say? Star Wars soundtrack the way it was meant to be. These are pretty much the original scores as released with the original movies and remastered onto CD in the early 1990's. One CD per movie and a bonus disc with select tracks from all three movies. If you're a die-hard Star Wars fan this is a must-own set.

It's so good to have this again. A great collection - A great box set - AND a great business to buy from! The Very Good description was more akin to Like New!

All I can say is that this soundtrack brings back memories and scenes from the movies every time I listen to it. The price was PHENOMENAL and the item arrived at my house in a few days!!!!

Auch wenn der Kauf schon in 2015 via Marketplace war...diese Box ist immer noch ein Musterstück einer Filmmusik-Veröffentlichung.Sagen wir es gleich vorweg: perfekt ist diese Box auch nicht. Es ist Fakt, dass nicht wirklich alles auf diesen CD's ist, dass insbesondere bei "Star Wars (Ep. IV)" in einigen wenigen Fällen die falschen Takes verwendet wurden, dass vor allem auf der Bonus-CD bei einigen Stücken die Kanäle vertauscht wurden. Aber das war letztlich einem irren Zeitdruck geschuldet unter dem diese Veröffentlichung litt. Fairerweise muss man sagen: das Problem der Star Wars-Musiken ist schlicht und ergreifend, dass es bisher keine einzige wirklich würdige, geschweige perfekte Veröffentlichung gibt!Aber diese hier ist schon nahe dran:Man bekommt ein hervorragendes, großes Booklet mit viel Info-Material zu den Musiken, zu den Takes. Man bekommt einige der Konzeptzeichnungen von Ralph McQuarrie serviert und ein Vorwort von Star Trek-Regisseur Nicholas Meyer.Star Wars enthält Takes die ungeschnitten sind, aber noch ein wenig an die Reihenfolge des legendären Albums von John Williams angepasst wurden und insgesamt einen sehr schönen Hörfluss bieten, auch ohne die Schnitte die Williams seinerzeit für nötig hielt.Empire bietet einen schönen neuen Querschnitt in Filmreihenfolge, lässt aber z. B. "Mynock Cave" außen vor - ist leider auch nicht auf der Bonus-CD.Jedi ist wohl eine der besten Präsentationen dieses Scores. Das Ur-Album wurde seinerzeit auf 45 Minuten reduziert und enthielt einige wichtige Stücke nicht (wie z. B. Darth Vader's death). Über die Gründe kann man nur spekulieren, wobei sich Williams dabei sicherlich etwas gedacht hat.Wie dem auch sei: auf dieser CD3 bekommt man einen hervorragenden Querschnitt des Scores der richtig gut fließt und soundtechnisch der Special-Edition-Doppel-CD haushoch überlegen ist.Überhaupt muss man sagen, dass es soundtechnisch an dieser Edition eigentlich nichts zu meckern gibt. Hohe Dynamik, klarer Sound, aber (wobei ich da nicht sicher bin) in Teilen die Remix-Versionen von John Neal, die Williams damals für die LP's kreierte und die zur Folge haben, dass manche Instrumente dann im Stereofeld einen anderen "Sitzplatz" haben. Kann man aber vernachlässigen.CD4 enthält dann noch Bonus-Stücke aus allen drei Filmen. Dabei die erste Version des berühmten Main-Titels, die Filmversion des Abspannes von Jedi die so nirgendwo veröffentlich wurde und nicht zu verwechseln ist, mit der Neukomposition die Williams für die Special-Edition 1996 nochmal komponierte.Es gibt wie gesagt bei den Empire-Stücken auf CD4 mal das Problem der verwechselten Kanäle wo dann die Streicher rechts sitzen oder die Hörner rechts, anstatt links. Aber kann man mit leben.Insgesamt ist das Paket sehr gut geschnürt und hat den Vorteil, dass es eigentlich auf optimalen Hörfluss ausgelegt ist und dennoch nicht soviel auslässt wie die Ur-Alben.Soundtechnisch ist die Arista-Box immer noch konkurrenzfähig und eine wirkliche Empfehlung, denn:- die Special Edition von 1997 (RCA), die dann u. a. 2004 von Sony mehrmals veröffentlicht wurde (ohne Booklet) enthält zwar zu 99,99 % die komplette Musik, ABER es wurde erkauft, dass Star Wars extrem laut ist (jegliche Dynamik ist dahin, alles angeglichen - allerdings hat der Score eine unglaubliche Wucht), Empire in Teilen remixt wurde und somit komplette Instrumentengruppen vertauscht wurden und die remixten Teile gegenüber den vorhandenen Stücken im Original-Mix von Eric Tomlinson deutlich zu trocken sind und Jedi war zwar komplett und hat einen sehr guten Bass, aber ist im Mastering arg gefiltert worden, wodurch die wunderbare Akustik der Abbey Road zum Teufel ist und man das Gefühl hat, dass man hinter einem fetten Samt-Vorhang hockt.- die 2016'er Remasterten Albumfassungen sind so nicht mehr zu bekommen, basierten aber auf den Album-Mastern und wurden für LP und HiRes-Download neu aufgelegt und übertragen. Das war sehr überzeugend geworden, aber eine CD-Veröffentlichung blieb aus. Diese Fassung bietet die Album-Fassungen wie von John Williams für alle 6 Episoden angedacht. Episode 1 wurde wohl sachte remastert, Episode 4 klingt leider (wie damals auf LP sehr flach und bassarm).- die 2018'er neuen "Remaster" sind aktuell die einzigen Fassungen der Alben die noch erhältlich ist. Dabei ist das Remaster aber nicht ganz korrekt, denn nach meinem Wissenstand wurden die Filmmixe herangezogen und daraus die Ur-Alben rekonstruiert (teils inklussive nachempfundener Holper-Schnitte) und entsprechend remastert. Ich persönlich finde sie klanglich überzeugend, vor allem Episode IV klingt grandios und auch Episode V hat wuchtigen Bass (aber war einigen zu hallig - was aber wiederum am Filmmix lag, weil dort so gewünscht). Jedi enthält natürlich auch hier nur das 45 Minuten Ur-Programm ohne den Synthie in "The Emperor", den es so nur auf dem 1983/1986'er Album gab und in der 2016-Fassung.Man sieht die Geschichte der Star Wars-Veröffentlichungen ist kompliziert und nicht perfekt. Dennoch würde ich letztlich die Empfehlung für diese Arista-Box aussprechen. Nicht vollständig aber alles spaßmachende erhaltend und in perfekter Aufmachung! So soll es sein. Der Vollständigkeit halber vielleicht noch die 2018'er Rekonstruktion der Alben und man ist erstmal gut versorgt bis dann doch vielleicht die Spezial-Label a la Intrada oder LaLaLandRecords eine ultimative Fassung dieser genialen Musik bringen!

私が、スターウォーズep4を観たのは小学生の頃だった。当時スクリーンで繰り広げられた映像に釘付けだった。なので私はスターウォーズと言ったらep4を含めた旧3部作です。このCDはep4〜ep6+1枚の聞き応え充分なCDなのでとても満足。

Massive fan of star wars and this is a must if you are after the most complete soundtrack for the original trilogy. Awesome ! nuff said

Un sublime coffret qui réunit l'essentiel de l'oeuvre monumentale de John Williams pour la trilogie originale de Star Wars !Cependant, je réagis au commentaire de Sulli, avec lequel je suis par ailleurs entièrement d'acccord : en aucun cas, ce coffret ne présente l'INTEGRALITE des musiques entendues dans le film ! Il s'agit d'une sélection des passages les plus importants, répartis sur 4 CDs (un par film, plus un bonus de plus d'une heure, indispensable), et le tout, il est vrai, d'une qualité sonnore irréprochable et jamais égalée par la suite.Si vous cherchez simplement à retrouver l'esprit musical de cette trilogie mythique, avec tous ses thèmes mémorables et ses moments de bravoure, ce coffret est pour vous ! Si, par contre, vous voulez à tout prix pouvoir entendre, hors film, la moindre note accompagnant les images (et même plus), je vous conseillerais plutôt de vous orienter vers les éditions 2CDs sorties ultérieurement, et tout aussi indispensables, à mon avis.Mais ce coffret offre quand même la possibilité d'écouter cette musique d'une belle manière, et à ce jour, unique en CD !Seul point noir : il se fait de plus en plus rare, et son prix est de plus en plus prohibitif. Profitez-en donc, tant qu'on en trouve encore à des tarifs plus ou moins raisonnables !
