Q: How big is the mousetrap itself?

It is as big as a regular mousetrap you would buy at a store. About 5in long and 2-3in wide. (Not really exact measurement, just an estimation.)

Q: We got the kit. What are the washers for? It doesn't keep the car in the middle of the axles.

The washers reduce the friction when the rubber spacers bump into the wood frame so the car travels further and factor. The rubber has a lot of friction on the wood but the metal washes has less friction. It is ok for the axle to move back and forth between the frame (side play). This side play prevents the washers from bumping into the frame and again, lets the car roll further and faster. You can always tighten the the axle up on the frame a little bit but not too much, side play is a good thing.

Fun and easy to assemble

Very flimsy. You have to be very careful or it may fall apart.

Won't go straight

Bought this for my son's science project. He neded it to go down a ramp but it would only go diagonally. We attempted to adjust it several times but it was inadequate. The wheels also fell off easily.

It's a good start

Bought this because my son had a school project to build a mousetrap car. Although he wasn't allowed to use a kit I got this to teach us how they work and to have some sort of reference. This kit can be improved upon ( same company makes better models) but it does what I needed it for
