The Political Show Trial of Slobodan Milosevic
Slobodan Milosevic was the leader of Serbia and Yugoslavia (which consisted of Serbia and the now independent country of Montenegro) during the US-led NATO bombing of Serbia from March 1999 to June 1999. During this time, President Milosevic was indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for war crimes in Kosovo. The US and NATO claimed that President Milosevic's suppression of a secessionist movement in the Serbian autonomous region of Kosovo amounted to ethnic cleansing and genocide, and that bombing Serbia was necessary to stop President Milosevic from committing these so-called war crimes. This book shows conclusively that these charges were false, and that they were brought against President Milosevic in order to justify American and NATO aggression against Serbia. The Kosovo secessionist movement was led by the terrorist Kosovo Liberation Army, which was guilty of staging an armed uprising against Serbian authorities and of committing terrorist acts against both Serbian civilians and the majority ethnic Albanian civilians of Kosovo. Non-combatants were never targeted by Serbia, and this book provides proof that Serbia committed no ethnic cleansing or genocide in Kosovo. The book's author gives the reader an excellent look at the arrogance, hypocrisy, ignorance, deceitfulness, lawlessness, and anti-Serb bias of NATO, the Clinton administration, and the ICTY. The ICTY itself was set up by the UN Security Council, which had no legal right to do so. Also, the book explains how the Serbian government extradited Milosevic to the ICTY (located in The Hague, Netherlands) in contravention of Serbia's own laws after Milosevic was removed from power in a US- and NATO-backed putsch. From the time he arrived in The Hague in 2001 until his death in March 2006 (Milosevic's trial - the longest criminal trial in world history - was still ongoing at this time), Milosevic was treated unfairly. The lead judge was scandalously biased towards the prosecution, and often treated Milosevic rudely and with contempt. The examples that the author gives are shocking. The author also gives many examples where Milosevic's right to due process and a fair trial was flagrantly violated. The book contains a superb chapter that demonstrates the many differences between the Nuremberg Tribunal that was set up after World War 2 and the ICTY. The book's author explains how the lofty and noble principles that guided the Nuremberg Tribunal have been corrupted by the ICTY.This book is important and necessary. We learn the truth about what happened in Serbia and Kosovo in 1999. The bombing of Serbia killed many civilians and was undoubtedly a major war crime. The book's author vindicates Slobodan Milosevic, who is one of the most misunderstood and maligned figures of recent history. This book is very informative with regard to the Balkan wars of the 1990s and the trial of Slobodan Milosevic. It is also a very informative book about international law and how it was corrupted by the ICTY. It is a must read for those who want to inform themselves of what happened in Serbia and Kosovo in 1999. This book is very well written, but what it tells us about NATO, the Clinton administration, and the ICTY is disturbing for those who believe in the innate goodness of human nature.

One of the most important books for anybody to read
One of the most important books for any American to read. Few lessons of the past are more relevant to current politics (e.g. understand this story if you want to better understand what's happening in the Ukraine). It would be hard to find a story more misunderstood by more people world wide. Everybody knows there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that the Iraq war was wholly unjustified. But few realize that there was no genocide or ethnic cleansing in Kosovo and that the Serbia war was every bit as unjustified. Clinton and Bush should be sharing a cell in prison for life for war crimes. Yet the Democrat wars get wide acceptance. That's one of the most important lessons we can learn. In fact Bernie Sanders voted for this horrific war and brags he'd do it again. Obama got the population to believe in the so-called "good wars". The same wars the population opposed under Bush are now called good wars thanks to Obama. No republican could have achieved that. And make no mistake about it, under Sanders war will become downright saintly. But he'll still be doing the evil work of the empire just as Obama, Bush and Clinton did it in the past.Don't be fooled. Read this book to educate yourself about how different reality can be from what you see in mainstream opinion, from left to right. Laughland did an absolutely incredibly good job documenting the farce. He deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, Obama/Carter/Gore instead should have their revoked and they should be locked up for life. That would be the real trial of the century if we had a modicum of honesty in this nearly universally indoctrinated society. It's hard to live in a world where that much of the population are that wrong. But that's the world we live in unfortunately. There are alternative political organizations that get this right. See True American Left for example.

Examine the evidence! NATO's judges didn't.
"Travesty" is Brilliant - a lawyer friend read it and was appalled and convinced that Milosevic's trial was a travesty. The narrative that Milosovic was a "Hitler" and Yugoslavia was a "good war" has melded with Canadians' narrative of self - without of course Canadians examining the evidence. Read and consider the evidence at Milosevic'a trial - the NATO's funded judges wouldn't. Ask yourself which of the Balkan states had no ethnic cleansing - Bosnia? Croatia? Kosovo? or was it Milosevic's Serbia? Who organised Operation Storm - the largest ethnic cleansing operation? and who brought in the great "freedom fighters", the Mujahadeen, AKA Al Qaeda , AKA "the moral equivalent of the Founding Fathers", to bring democracy to the Balkans? (hint it was not Slobodan Milosevic)

The Truth Will Set You Free
A great book which demonstrates, both succinctly and clearly (and along with all the necessary references), not only what a sham of a trial the Milosevic trial was, but also how the US, NATO and it's allies were able to demonise the former Serbian president, and to break apart the former Yugoslavia. It's really just the usual MO from a country that wants to have it's own way in order to satisfy it's rather explicit self-interest.For background, i am a Serb-Croatian living in Australia.

Wanted More...
I had hoped author Laughland would have spent more page space devoted to the actual trial and the mockery that it was. Much of what Laughland writes is a general overview of Milosevic and his trial. This feels almost like part one of a two part book...even though it isn't.Michael Mandel's "How America Gets Away With Murder" book only devotes a few pages to the actual Milosevic trial, but Mandel gives you more information about the proceedings in those pages than Laughland does in his entire book."Travesty" still is filled with important information and is worth a read for those wanting to know more about the joke called "international justice"....I just wanted more.

Fascinating
Whatever your views on Milosevic, the trial process was an embarrassment for The Hague and the international community. Milosevic was very cleaver not to leave any written evidence which can connect him to any war cimes etc. Even his speaches were always calling for peace and cooperation but the tribunal was set up to find him guilty, evidence or not. Fascinating insight into the workings of the Tribunal.
