The Crystal Palace: A Portrait of Victorian Enterprise

An excellent overall look at the history of the Crystal Palave
I should first preface this interview with a recommendation and note to other reviews: buy the hardback edition. The original hardback copies don’t have the same printing issues the paperback ones do.This book is full of information about the palace from beginning until its sad end. The author gives notes on multiple perspectives of the palace with some amusing commentary on the way - although this may just be the British bluntness.A great jumping in point if you want to know more about the People’s Palace, or if you simply want an easy way to learn history quick!

A ton of knowledge
That book was all I wanted: a ton of illustrated : blueprints, construction stage, etc. Plus a lot of knowledge about the difficulty of the construction for that Victorian icon of steel and glass

Dreadful quality. Illegible
Absolutely awful quality. Almost illegible and dreadfully flawed reproduction of photographs that have lost all clarity through scanning and hazing. Sent back for a refund. This is an awful Amazon rip off. Buy the genuine book

A really informative and interesting read
Having moved to south east london in the last few years, I have taken a keen interest in the local area and what factors have influenced its development over the last few centuries to get an understanding of how its has ended up where it is. Having read "Sydenham and Forest Hill History and Guide" by Joan P Alcock I got the sense of the influence the Palace has had on the area and it was something I wanted to learn more about. This book is a fascinating and detailed description of the journey of the palace's idea being conceived, the original development and then the final site at Sydenham. Its got a lot of excellent pictures and gives a great insite into the impact the Palace had to put the local area on the map. I would definitely recommend it.
