I've never heard of opal glass plates. What's the advantage over the usual white porcelain plates, if any?

These are really tough - I have the dinner plates, side plates and bowls, and they have never cracked or chipped. There is none of the surface glazing you sometimes get with china. And they look stylish too!

Are they microwave safe

Yes ; in fact, the product description says "Dishes Microwave and dishwasher safe" These are beautiful plates for the dining table, a real pleasure to use. Recommended!

Do they retain heat well

Lovely plates. I always warm them before serving a hot meal and they sta6 warm
