Such a good poet! The author does an amazing job luring you in with each Easy but in dept read! I finished it in one day because I was glued to every page. I didn’t want to stop reading!

I’ve never felt so understood by another’s words or domestic experiences—just by the image of the cover, I was automatically taken back to my childhood. This lovely book will forever be on my mind.

As a black teenage girl who loves to read anything about other black women that I can get my hands on, this book was so enticing. As soon as it arrived at my door, I began reading it and the first hour that I had it I was already close to the 100s. For the poems to not be very long, the book is very touching so far. This is already a good read, and I would suggest this to any black girl having identity or mental issues because this book is vague, yet it gives you a lot to think about. I love this book and I will most definitely introduce it to my Afro-American club at school!!

I am not sure how to feel about this collection of poems. As a privileged white woman some of the things mentioned I simply cannot relate to, but that does not in any way make what was written irrelevant. I often felt uncomfortable while reading. Hard topics are addressed in reference to race, religion, rape, and more. I’m sure some of it is over my head, but the parts that resonated with me were beautiful and I hope more people read this book. Just know it’s not fluffy and sweet, it’s deep and hard and shines a light on those uncomfortable (and often not talked about) corners of society.

This book means so much to me, as a black woman. I love how relatable the writing is. It was a quick read since it is all written as poetry, but I find myself rereading this book once every few months.

Really good read. A bit triggering at times..but if you can handle traumatic subjects you’ll definitely love it!

Jasmine also speaks about racism, police brutality, the Birmingham bombings, assault, sexual violence, traumas, girl trafficking and lots more.“A woman stretched her body for me, and I have no words to describe her in wholeness, but without shame, I want you to know her. My mother.”I’ll recommend this over and over again because It’s a much-needed gem! uplifting and powerful. 👏🏾👏🏾

It's amazingly specific, and yet so personal it feels like she's talking to you. I can relate to all of her poems and it reminds you, you aren't alone in this world with you experiences and struggles. It's uplifting and powerful. 💜

This is a beautiful work of art that every black girl should have on her bookshelf.
