So far so good
So far this unit operates as advertised and achieves my main objective of stopping DE from leaking into the pool from my old Hayward DE filter. As others have pointed out, the filtration cells take some time to clean and I found following the manual instructions to use a hose with no nozzle doesn’t work, so I use a nozzle on “center” spray and that works pretty well and doesn’t seem to be harmful to the filter element. The drain is hard to reach and those of us in our seventies need to train as contortionists and buy knee pads to get to it but that aside, it is certainly easier to reinsert the cleaned filter elements than for the nightmarish Hayward DE unit. The pool looks much better. I had a spell of yellow algae from getting a lot of sawdust in the pool from tree removals so I had to clean the filters after the first month of operations so I don’t have experience on how long one can go between filter cleanings under normal conditions.

Worst packaging I have ever seen....
I don't exactly know where to start here. The shipment came a day late...which held myself and my installer up. It arrived just a few minutes ago. Simply the worst packaging I have ever seen. The bulkhead unions were just laying in the box, and the pressure gauge was at the bottom of the box, badly scuffed by the filter tank coming in contact with it. The bulkhead unions came with no o'rings, rendering them pretty much useless. The filter tank itself is badly marked up. I mean...why even bother putting a box around the damn thing. Same outcome either way. Absolutely pathetic for an almost $900 item. I'd be shocked if once we install it tomorrow, the gauge even works after having been bounced around. Who knows what the cartridges or manifold looks like, I haven't psyched myself up enough yet to remove the cover and look. This is a 145 lb filter, and a 4 yr old could have done a better job packaging it. Truly ridiculous. If I wasn't completely stuck, I'd return it. It would never survive another trip in that box though.EDIT: After examining further, the threads on one of the bulkhead unions was destroyed, no doubt from being the most exposed of the product due to the horrible packaging. Also the clamp as well as the cap for the bleeder valve is missing as well. So now I get to try and massage the threads enough for the nut to clear and tighten properly. Also, seeing all the other damage, I removed the top cover of the filter to find the hold down clamp for the filter cartridges was broken in half. Needed to glue the piece back together again. As this product is advertised as ready-to-go, if I'd have taken them at their word, there would have been a problem.Assuming this is ultimately Pentair's doing regarding the boxing of this product, someone over there needs to get the axe.Now I get the joy of trying to scrounge parts locally so I can install this damn thing tomorrow. I have never been so unhappy about a product.

Just say no to diatomaceous earth
I recommend this cartridge filter over an earth filter. Contrary to reports, I find it filters water just as well as the earth filter with less hassle

Great filter and improved in last 8 years
I had one of these filters for eight years before it sprang a leak due to a crack in the middle of a wall in the lower section. The new replacement is almost identical except the clamp ring is stainless steel. (The old one was powder coated but had no corrosion.) The filter arrived in great shape. I made the trucker wait while I opened the box to ensure there was no internal damage, as was experienced by another reviewer. All the parts were present including o-rings and unions. It matched the existing plumbing with no issues. The older filter always ran at a pressure of 26 psi with clean cartridges. The new is running at 20 psi so it appears to have less back pressure. There may be a difference of calibration between the gauges, but I think the new cartridge design is probably a bit more efficient. Note that without professional installation you get a 60 day, parts-only warranty. It took me about 90 minutes to carefully replace my old filter and cost about half what the professionals would charge.

Filter itself good, cartridges junk
Filter itself good, cartridges junk. I've installed the filter two months ago. I replaced a Pentair DE filter that was about 10 years old. This filter fit exactly in the space as the old one. I began seeing more silt in the pool and my Polaris 360 screen began frequently plugging. I opened it and found all four cartridges cracked at the top or bottom allowing debris to break through. The cartridges were too long and when installed they eventually cracked. The cartridges measured over 32-1/8 +. They are supposed to be 32-1/16. The cartridges were not made very well at all. I contacted Amazon who gave me a $215 credit and I bought Pleatco cartridges for $209 which were much higher quality than the Pentair. So far so good but it was an avoidable hassle!!

Great filter, good price
It's the filter to get -- and for something like a filter you generally want to go big. Only negative is that the pressure gauge arrived broken/cracked. Otherwise though, it's installed and performing great so far. Will update if any issues.

Check equipment at delivery
Very easy to replace if you have exact model, was able to use existing plumbing, less than 30 min to remove old and install new. Highly recommend checking delivery, very poor packaging, no protection of equipment, just thrown in box. Otherwise very good product.
