The Mid-Atlantic Coast: The How and the Why...
For those of you fortunate enough to live on or near the U.S. Atlantic coast somewhere between the Jersey shore and North Carolina's Outer Banks, here is a book for you. This Field Guide to the Mid-Atlantic Coast is a fascinating combination of geology, ocean science, and natural history topics. It is science nicely served up with maps, explanatory graphics, and color photographs. The guide covers the Jersey Shore, Cape May, Delaware Bay, the Delmarva Peninsula and the Outer Banks of Virginia and North Carolina. It identifies plant, bird and animal species in the above regions, and explains why the shoreline changes and will keep changing. There are some cool graphics on how inlets in the Outer Banks open and close, among other things. Science in a portable book, and well recommended to the enterprising traveler.

Great boom
The information , photos, graphics are amazing and very well explained. Every aspect of coastal life is covered . My only complaint is that the type is a bit small and I need a magnifying glass to read details of graphic info. So much info and illustrations in this size book that I think a larger size book would have been more appropriate but then it would not be a field guide . That being said this is a wonderful book !

Great book
I am a transplant to the area having grown up in the Midwest. This book covers everything about this area, ocean activity, wildlife and plant life. Gives great explanations about some of the topography unique to this area.

A must-have book.
I checked this book out from my library. It took me about 10 pages in to realize I had to own it. It not only won a National Outdoor Book Award this year, but it's gorgeous, and very informative.
