what a unique tour guide with humor, wisdom, and sassiness
I happen to love the many mysterious wonders of Los Angeles. So I would be enjoying this book even if it were dry and stuffy. But this new book by Catherine Auman is anything but dry and stuffy. She is extremely funny, insightful, sassy, and conversational. It feels like you are being taken to the most interesting places with the most outrageous backstories and it's done like a one-on-one conversation with a dear friend. What a fun experience to read this book at home or to read it as part of a day trip to one of the fascinating parts of Los Angeles. It makes me hope that Los Angeles will continue to be on the cutting edge of exploration and transcendence for many more years and centuries to come.Leonard Felder, PhDauthor, We See It So Differently

Thorough & Great Pics!
My husband and I are Los Angeles natives so were happy to find this book! There are so many places we had never heard of, and some we had been to but didn't know much about. We plan on filling up some of our boring COVID weekends with driving tours of some of these locations, the book is laid out a bit like those big red double deck tour busses, with tours of different areas of LA with interesting commentary which is pretty cool! Would be an awesome book for visitors to LA as well - lots of hidden gems. The pictures are great too! Definitely recommend.

Full of Places You Never Knew
The Guide To Spiritual L.A. is a refreshing gem of a book. Each place is treated with sensitivity, lightness and suprises. This book is well-organized to quickly find whatever interests me, either close or far. Be ready to be happily surprised by really cool places that exist right under our (Southern California) noses!

Enjoying this book!
I live in Los Angeles and have an interest in spirituality and a majority of the information in this book is new to me. You can tell that the author enjoyed researching this topic and uncovering information lost over time. Also, I love the author's smart and irreverent style of writing. I wondered whether, in the age of online resources, that I'd want this type of book, but I'm so glad I got it. It takes me back to the pleasures of a coffee table style book. It is not information I'd read elsewhere. I pick up the book and flip through the great photos and read a few pages and learn new information that makes me look at LA with new eyes.

A Spiritual Scavenger Hunt
Anyone that likes travel books, likes to travel, and enjoys getting off the beaten path will love this book. Anyone who goes on spiritual travel trips and revels in the majesty of European cathedrals or Buddhist temples, regardless of faith tradition or none at all, will enjoy knowing about these places and history in LA. There are super fun titles like Whole Lot a Shakin’ & Bad Rock Star Behavior and Auman’s opinions on things are funny and intriguing. Who knew that the Four Square Church started out that way? The book is like a spiritual scavenger hunt and educational to boot!

A Roadmap for Notoriously Difficult Territory
This guide offers a framework for exploring this famously sprawling city: it's sometimes hard to know where to start and how to plan a visit or "staycation" in Los Angeles. Auman offers new insights on old favorite locations and fresh possibilities for adventure. I recommend this for any Angelo looking to explore their city (and themselves!) and to any visitor who wants a quirky roadmap to this enchanted and often challenging locale.

Sweet surprises inside this book
I grew up in L.A. and have lived many years outside of L.A. as well. To know the city intimately is to love it. This guide provides a staggering number of historical and unusual gems, some of which I'd forgotten about decades ago and others I've never known about. Be ready for fun and well-organized days out and about with this book as your guide.

Amazing Find!
Please do yourself a favor and get this book! It contains amazing insights about the spiritual side of L.A., which so often is misunderstood as a superficial starlet parking lot. It allows for inspiring and uplifting trips all over town to places where you truly FEEL the energy. I love this book! Thanks Catherine Auman for assembling this treasure!Ziri

From the scandalous to the sublime . .
There is no need to visit L.A. to enjoy this fascinating book. From the wildly scandalous to the truly sublime, the "city of angels" contains a concentrated microcosm of what goes on all over the world in the name of "seeking spirituality". It seems that many of the sparks that originated in other parts of the world became phenomenal explosions when their seeds took root in the spiritual vortex that is centred on Los Angeles. All explained in this fascinating and enjoyable read. If you are seeking pathways into spirituality that are more practical to implement in your daily life, I highly recommend you to also get the author's other book, "Short Cuts To Mindfulness."

A tremendous job of covering every aspect of LA spirituality...
The first thing that strikes you when you open this book is the gorgeous photography. This book really takes one back to the fantastic days of coffee table books with the big pictures. I own a lighthouse one but if you are interested in a different source of light, this book might work on your coffee table. The author takes the reader on a tour of Los Angeles unlike any of the other ones that people take. Set in a format that will be familiar to someone who has toured the stars’ homes or one of the big cemeteries. This book gives important visitor-centered info - how to get to a spot, where to park, is the parking free, etc..If you are someone who either follows an Eastern-based spiritual path or is intrigued by the conceivable peace that comes with that kind of journey, this book could be for you. The author has done a tremendous job of covering every aspect of LA spirituality in an informative way. My personal interests lean more towards the Ultimate Baseball Roadtrip, but if you want to tour places of spirituality buy this book. A LA tour unlike any you have thought about before which makes this book unique!Disclaimer: I bought this on Amazon CA.My Rating: 5 stars
