I learned about Dachstein woolwear when I met my husband (45 years ago). My husband was a mountaineer and he swore by the warmth of his Dachstein mittens. I wore those mittens once while Christmas caroling and learned quickly why my husband relied on Dachstein to keep him from frostbite while mountaineering. Dachstein wool mittens kept my hands dry and warm! Fast forward to the present. My husband hates slippers, but wanted something to keep his feet warmer while he relaxes in the evenings - especially after a day of working out in winter weather. He randomly commented that he wished someone made socks like his awesome Dachstein mittens. I did some research, found Dachstein lower cut socks on Amazon, and surprised him with the socks for Christmas. He was thrilled! His socks were a little tighter than he preferred, so I inherited them and bought him a bigger size. We both love these 4 ply boiled wool socks for sitting around and relaxing. So cozy and comfortable! Some reviewers have mentioned that the socks are itchy. I have very sensitive, dry skin and I don't find the socks itchy or scratchy, nor does my husband. If you are concerned about that, you could wear a thin cotton liner sock with these. In addition to warmth and comfort, the seller of these is top notch! They went out of their way to be sure the socks I ordered got to me before Christmas - no extra fees. Even my second sock order arrived ahead of schedule. Both my socks and my husband's socks arrived with a gift bow, Christmas candy, and a sample of the special soap used for hand washing these socks. They also included a nice tri-fold pamphlet explaining how to care for your socks, showing the other products they make, giving their contact information, and sharing their story. If you have cold feet while you're relaxing, get a pair of these thick, amazing Dachstein boiled wool socks to keep your toes toasty! They're worth the investment!

These are very expensive but they are the warmest socks I've ever owned....when I put another 100% wool pair on, my feet are still cold....with these they are comfortable and warm....the only negative and it's one I can cope with is I don't wear shoes in the house so when I go outside to say get the mail and try to put my regular slip on shoes, the socks are very large and are hard to walk in the slip on shoes.....but they are totally worth getting....I've bought 2 pairs now and wear them all the time. I love them!

The rating decision was a difficult one. I really like the product and it fit well but after wearing it to pad around the house, like a slipper, it developed a hole on the bottom. Was this my fault for wearing it around the house without shoes? Shouldn't a sock hold up under those circumstances? Well, maybe yes and maybe no. I would still recommend this item (I mean, I still gave it a 4!) but I think you should plan to wear the sock with shoes/boots and not use them as slippers around the house.

Very Soft, Warm, I have several pairs and will continue to add several more to my arsenal! Great for a gift, for your self, for you DOG! LOL! no really I wear these every day, even to bed, so comfortable hard to take them off. Easy to clean and maintain shape. I highly recommend the 4-ply though or you will get hole in the thinner version fast if you wear them as much as I do! If you have issues Rick is very fair and helpful, great company!!

These are really nice. I bought them because I was traveling to several climates in the same trip and I didn’t want to bring insulated boots. They kept my feet comfortably warm at -26f in a pair of hiking shoes. Mind you I was moving rather than standing still. They are thick so you do have to wear them with a pair of shoes or boots that can accommodate them but it’s not a huge issue. I cannot comment on the durability yet but they worked perfectly for the purpose for which they were purchased.

I have started giving these for presents - I have two pairs and couldn't be happier with them. We live in a log cabin in the woods in the mountains in CO - I live in these!
