Poor Quality Lock & False Advertising!!!
WATCH OUT!!!!! If you buy this lock on AMAZON, you CANNOT register it for the ANTI-THEFT PROTECTION OFFER (ATPO) service through Kryptonite's website. I bought this lock that is listed as being the "Kryptonite-New-U Kyptolok series 2 standard bicycle U Lock with 4ft Flex Bike Cable"; however, the prefix letter on the key is a "P" indicating this was not a series 2!!! Unfortunately, you need an itemized receipt when registering your lock on the website for ATPO, and since the lock does not match the key type you are unable to register the lock with the same name that is on your itemized receipt. For security purposes, many people have had experiences where their locks have been broken, so to me it was top priority to register the lock for this anti-theft program. On top of this, the key and the lock do not match up easily. It takes jiggling the key into the hole for about 15-20 seconds and I've had the lock for less than a week. One of my family members bought a Kryptonite lock about 4 years ago, and they experience similar issues. I thought their experience was just normal wear and tear through out the years, and that if this was a flaw with the lock, then it would have been fixed for the newer models. I was wrong.I 100% DO NOT recommend buying a lock from Kryptonite!

Not A Series 2!
I received the product, and proceeded to register the keys at Kryptonite website. The key number has a prefix of "P". I selected the product name "KryptoLok Series 2 Standard with 4 Ft Cable", the website asked me to pick the key prefix, but none of the 3 choices is letter P. So I suspected that it is not a Series 2. Once I made the selection of product name to just "KryptoLok", the key prefix choice changed to letter P.I'm sure that this lock will function for some time, but I have to give 1 star due to false product name here on Amazon.

Versatile size -- not too small, not too big, just right for one bike -- but turning the key can be a struggle
Things I like:I find 9x4 inch locks to be a versatile choice for locking up one bike. I tried a "mini" lock and never successfully locked my bike to anything with the lock through both the frame and a wheel. Those locks might be ok if you only ever need to lock your bike securely to a particular rack and the geometry cooperates but I noticed there are at least two pictures on Kryptonite's site that show a mini lock around only the frame and a rack. Hmm. But a lock this size has always allowed me to lock my bike up to whatever I find at my destination. The bigger locks can work for two bikes but are overkill for one bike.I like the double deadbolt, the idea being you'd have to make two cuts through this lock to cut it off instead of one. I think the wirecutter.com review said that is actually true in practice.Things I don't like:On the older design, the keyway was at one end of the crossbar where it was easy to see and get to This design puts the keyway in the middle of the crossbar. The new position is both less visible and harder to access when the lock is hanging on my bike's rack which it usually is when not in use. I've never used a frame bracket. The key can be finicky to turn. Kryptonite seems to realize this and includes a red tag saying "don't force the key". Sometimes it's so finicky I just want to walk away and leave my bike unlocked instead of taking the time to jiggle things until it turns. But that's how bike locks have always been for me and this is my fourth. Maybe I just need to work on my technique.Things I question:Kryptonite makes thicker and more "secure" locks than this but are there any studies showing that the extra fraction of a millimeter reduces theft? I've got to think if anything makes a difference it would be the double deadbolt, but I'm tempted to say nothing would really make a practical difference.Update: I've reduced my rating from four starts to two because the difficulty of turning the key makes this lock unusable for many of my practical purposes. I've had other people try the key and everybody agrees it's an epic struggle. But, it turns out to be the most secure lock I've ever owned because I've been leaving my bike safely at home and walking the half mile to the grocery store rather than have yet another epic struggle with the key. Sometimes it fools me by turning smoothly, then the next time it won't. I'm almost afraid that if I use this lock I won't be able to get it open with the key again.

These are a thief deterrent not and actual fix
alot of people giving this product a 1 star i dont think you fully understand what a lock is, a lock is something just to deter the thief its not a actual solution you can break absolutely any lock so stop giving it 1 star when your bike gets stolen

Good but ATP warrant is NOT free
I like this lock, the sturdiness, and confidence they have in it.Right off the bat though, I was not happy that I was deceived about the "anti-theft protection warranty". It COSTS ADDITIONAL. I mean this makes sense, but the advertising was deceptive and perceived it to be included. In fact pretty much the only reason I spent more on this was because I thought I was getting that. I probably would have just bought a cheaper one if I realized.I do like the design and features, and the extra 4ft cable is a must for commuters. One other complaint is that sometimes the key doesn't seem to want to work. I cant quite figure out when it happens but I think sometimes If you start turning the key when it's not 100% inserted, it might turn part of the lock and then you get into this weird limbo where you can't open it even if you reinsert it all the way and keep wiggling it. Eventually it just opens with enough tries. This has only happened a few times and it eventually resolves itself, but still annoying. Like I said, I think it is probably carelessness when inserting the key, but still odd.Overall with my complaints, it is still a great lock, but perhaps a bit pricey.

MY KRYPTONITE, MY HERO.
SAVED MY BIKE. BROKE THE ASSAILANTS CAR JACK. STILL WORKS. HALLELUJAH! ššRIP to my dear, brave, cord who died in battle- your sacrifice will not be forgotten. ⤠*I've only left my bike outside one time in the 2 years I've owned it, to you, the reader-despite my success story, I warn you: Don't put faith in your neighborhood. Not even once.*

Saved my bike
I had only owned my new bike for three days before someone tried to steal it. When I came to unlock it on the third day it was obvious someone had tried to steal it. (London for you)Theyāve tried to cut the lock, bend the lock and grind it, however it didnāt give up! And saved my bike :) the thieves must have been at this a long time so Iām really impressed how the lock didnāt break.Itās been bent so bad Iāll need to buy a new one but much better than replacing my bike!

Cut straight through!!
Bought this lock less than a week ago. Left the bike in a relatively safe neighbourhood and came back to find it had been cut straight through and bike nicked. The thief obviously identified it as an easy target and a quick job as it was a main road. Cut clean through like a hot knife through butter. Do not get this lock! Not secure at all.

Good lock for the price
Best budget d lock, hopefully,it will keep my Boardman MX Sport safe. It was really easy to install the bracket after watching kryptonite's tutorial on youtube. You need to make sure the key is all the way in,otherwise it won't unlock...The key registration program is a nice feature, highly recommended! It wasn't intentional, but colorwise fits perfectly my bike! Noice.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - READ ALL REVIEWS!
Literally no idea where to begin - I will copy and paste one of the MANY reviews I read *after* buying the lock (fully my mistake!!!)"I've only been using this lock for 2 months and every time i try to lock or unlock my bike i have to jiggle the key for 2-5 minutes before it actually will activate the lock mechanism. i expect alot better from a kryptonite bike lock and am very disappointed."I'M IN THE SAME FREAKING BOAT AS THIS QUOTED REVIEWED - I bought this May 2020, it is now June 2020 and I have posted it for sale in my local community (I am too late to return it on here!) THIS LOCK NEVER WORKS!!! The Key is literally always jammed. The reviewer that I WISH I listened to says they have to jiggle the lock for 2-5 minute every time.... WELL, they're having better luck than me - this lock jams for literally 10 minute EVERY D*** TIME I either open or attempt to lock it!Hands down the WORST product I have ever bought of Amazon! OR EVER!!! ANYWHERE!!!! I have just finished spraying the lock with WD40, jiggling the key, taking it to a bike shop to jiggle it - IT'S STILL SITTING RIGHT BESIDE ME JAMMED THE EFF UP!!!!I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH - IF YOU VALUE ****ANY*** PART OF YOUR SANITY - DO NOT BUY THIS FLIPPIN' LOCK!!!! DO NOT BE FOOLED THE BY THE BRAND NAME.THE. ABSOLUTELY. WORST.

Worse than useless
The lock comes with two keys. Kyryptonite supposedly supply spares, but their US website does not recognise the number on this lock keys. So, no possibility of replacements - and shipping from the US would take too long anyway.Frankly avoid if you have kids, especially those a little way from home. A world of paint awaits with a lost key.
