Despite mediocre reviews I chose to try this tool and am very very pleased with it. I mean, you could wish for more or for something else but for me it fits into what I am terming My meditative approach to grooming my Golden. After 8 years of paying groomers I started watching Jun The Groomer (he has books on Amazon) and taking a calm planned approach to maintaining my pet. When I use this I use my wrist to guide it with my thumb on the thumb rest and gently work it under the mats while pulling gently away from the skin. The wrist motion I use enables me to actually loosen the mat until it releases from the healthy fur. Some mats require a different approach if they are formed flat against the skin. I'll use scissors to loosen so that I can pull mats far enough out to grip them and avoid pulling too hard against the skin. I notice I get the actual mats, looser,but mats nonetheless. I bought another dematting deshedding tool that has shorter blades and two sided with many more blades for loose hair remaining. I bought scissors and clippers as well and am finding that if I work through this using each tool to follow up on the previous I get amazing results. My Golden Retriever has always been diagnosed with allergies or fleas. Fleas I could never see. Now I realize the skin irritations start with the shedding cycle and irritations come after the dog is licking and biting at the mats pulling on his skin. After completing my process, my meditation, while listening to great tunes my Golden lies peacefully for hours verses in fits of discomfort. The positive after benefits are that I am learning how to groom and cut my Golden's fur in a way he appears to appreciate by hanging closer to me throughout the day, I just seems so content.

Although it's bulkier than my other de-matter, because of the serrated blades, it's a lot easier to go through the mattes. With my previous de-matter (purple handle on the right), it would pull my dog's hair even though I tried to hold the hair down by the roots. With this new de-matter, still holding the base of the hair, I just use a rocking back and forth motion like a saw to get through the mattes as I pull upward. On this new de-matter, I don't see the purpose of the thumb support in front of the blades, but that's just me. It may come in handy for some. All in all, a great buy!

I have a long haired torti and this comb is exactly what we needed. Used in combination with a gentler brush it is perfect.

I got this to help loosen the matted hair my cat developed with her winter coat this year. I used it probably 3-4 times before my cat starting attacking the comb and biting me whenever I got near her. When I could use it, the comb definitely got into the mats and helped lift out some of the downy fluff that was stuck. But the pulling was too much for kitty. She hates the comb, and is punising me for using it on her.

Works great on my labradoodles curly coat. They are considered to be dogs that do not shed however they do lose hair, it just stays in their coat and creates mats. This is great to use a few times a week to bring out any loose hair and keep her coat free of mats.

This product helped so much in removing tangles from our Australian Labradoodle. He is going through the transition from baby hair to adult and tangles are very frequent.we use this tool at least twice per week to keep the tangles out. Thanks for a great tool.
