Novatel MiFi 2 4G LTE 5792 Hotspot (Unlocked)

I wasted $100 euros on two trips to Europe purchasing local data card once in Germany and now Italy because this device doesn't work on anything other than AT&T. I received an AT&T mifi liberate and not this global unlocked advertised. I tried all APN settings and all sorts of solutions on the web but nothing worked. I thought I was doing something wrong in Germany back in June '16 so I tried again in Italy to no avail. It is upsetting and frustrating because in both countries the data card purchase is final with no refunds. Do not purchase this item.

I purchased this device to use it in Costa Rica. It worked twice fine and on the third usage it locked itself. I took it to the local phone service provider and they confirmed that the SIM card was working well, that the device had locked perhaps due to faulty software. I contacted Novatel U.S. on Oct. 5th., they acknowledge my request for help and that is the last I heard of them. So, just to be sure, I purchased another "unlocked" Novatel MiFi 2 4G LTE 5792 from Amazon. This one worked, but it does not connect to Internet. If you are from overseas and/or intend to use this device internationally, think twice. O.K., after much research, trial and error and consultation here and there, we managed to connect this device to Internet. Here is some advice: 1. Do not change the Login Admin password, for if you fail three times, the device locks. 2. To connect internationally to Internet, go to Settings: Network Settings: APN and change the configuration from ATT to the local network. That did it for us.

I activated this on AT&T and it seemed to work rather well. We traveled with it though several states and as I expected it the reception was spotty in some areas, but even in the middle of nowhere we were able to get access in most places. Initially I got the 2GB pay as you go and the only drawback was that when you monitor your usage it show you are using some of your allowance and then all of a sudden you check and you are completely out. Not sure if that is a problem with AT&T or this unit, but rather annoying. We did stream a lot of video, but if I keep checking it the unit should be able to give me accurate usage data. It was not.

It has helped me and rescue me when there is no internet and I need to send any whatsapp message or email urgently. However, I do not recommend to rely on this product for working overseas because the audio connection in conferences when connected to it is not very good. If you have any idea how to resolve this...then I guess I can change the way I perceive the product.I bought a SIM CARD and it is 4G...Thank you!

The device was NOT unlocked as claimed. I had to unlock it, which is possible but complicated and required an AT&T SIM card. Contacting the seller was useless; their tech support seems aimed at getting rid of the customer as soon as possible.If yours is locked, search for "mifi liberate unlock advanced". Find the link to AT&T forums with the post from dquackie dated Jun 10, 2016 11:33:48 AMOnce unlocked, the device worked fine with my T-Mobile SIM as well as with SIMs from European carriers.

Works Awesomely. I did check the frequencies prior to buying to ensure it would work on the cell network i needed it for. It freeze locks on occation like once per week where i have to pull out the battery and then reboot it but that is not much of a complaint seeing how my phone used to do the same thing a lot more frequently :) Overall I am Pleased. I never had a bad Novatel Wireless device. They have always been reliable.

The product is not advertised as used, refurbished or anything of the sort. Came in a plain white box with no brand, no manual, no instructions, nothing but the charger. The back of the unit was scratched, upon using three types of SIM different companies, not one was recognized. Sent a message to seller, ended up recommending to send back. It’s a long process for something that didn’t even gave support online 🤷🏻‍♀️ Not worth spending the money even though it’s cheap… I guess I should have known
