Through a Designer's Eye: A Focus on Interiors

Beautiful Book, what I loved most is Matthew's own photos side-by-side with his interiors
There's a real sense of the author/artist's lens, both in the unfussy elegant comfortable interiors, and in the stunning snapshots of nature and urban life from around the world in Matthew's personal photography.

Fantastic
I really enjoy this book. It requires a bit more time reading than many design books, but the text is thought-provoking and provides a lot of "food for thought".There are 5 main sections: The Hand, History, Surroundings, Drama, and Atmosphere. Each of these starts with text describing how the designer uses these design processes and the photos exemplify that concept. The sections are then broken out further into two sub-chapters. The first is a project that further illustrates the concept. The second portion is a page with photos that adds further thought: personal details, threads of time, the French connection, sight lines, and transformations. The book has great illustrations of the projects as well as the designer's personal photos showing that inspiration comes from all over. I really enjoyed this book and it is nice to have a glimpse into the designer's eye.

Enchanting
I am loving this new book by Matthew Smyth. The photographs and interiors are gorgeous. But more than that the narrative woven through drew me in. His attention to detail, history, and story, and how that forms a perfect interior, individual to each client with their unique personality and traits is a captivating read. Enchantingly written, I highly recommend "Through a Designer's Eye".I'd like to be transported right now to the cozy interior he describes of his future dream house, off the rugged coast of Ireland.
