No complaints works as intended

I run two of these hatcheries through spring and summer to feed my Medaka (rice fish) fry. I keep both dishes warm on a seedling warming mat, and under a small gooseneck desk lamp that adds a bit of warmth as well as a strong light to attract the newly hatched shrimp to the center basket. I stagger seeding each hatchery every other day or two. That way I have a consistent supply of live brine shrimp to feed my fry. I use aquarium salt weighed out on a scale, and then dissolved into hot water. I let the salt water cool before adding to the hatchery, then I leave it to warm on the seedling mat (set on low for mine) for a bit before adding my brine shrimp eggs. For the eggs, I’ve had great success with those I’ve ordered from aquarium Co-op. Just keep the unhatched eggs cool and out of the sun. I rinse the shrimp off, still in the tiny basket, by dipping the basket into a small cup of filtered water. Once you have done this a few times, it becomes a super easy routine. The bowls do not take up that much space and are fairly inconspicuous, unlike most of the giant systems out there. As long as you rinse the bowls well, I use my garden hose, before each new batch of eggs, there should be very little to no smell. This is simply, the best option I have found on the market for my needs. If you are running an entire fish room this may not be a big enough system, but for raising a one or two hundred Medaka fry in garden ponds, two of these do the trick.

First one arrived in a dusty, beat up old looking box and of course when I opened it, it was broken with a big hole in the side and plastic pieces on the box from the break. Not really the manufacturer’s fault but still. Now, the Hatcher just works ! It’s super simple. Easy. Hatches out at a great rate especially if you use the BRS eggs with 90 percent hatch rate. I put mine on a plant seedling heating pad to warm the temp up to the mid 70’s and 24 hours later getting tons of hatched brine shrimp. The fact you don’t have to worry about or mess with the hatched cysts and are collecting just the hatched shrimp is the best feature of the product ! I would def recommend but given what it’s made of, should be a much much less expensive price point. Yet I still bought two of them to keep going on at times so I always hatch a hatch available for my fish. Definitely recommend for ease of use alone !

Finally wanted to try my hand at baby brine shrimp for my chili rasboras/scarlet badis. This kit is incredibly easy and works as advertised! What I did: prepare 1 quart of water (4 cups), added a drop of dechloronator. Added just under 2 tablespoons of API Aquarium Salt (for freshwater) and stirred well until the salt was dissolved. Assemble the dish as shown in the video, pour water into the dish to the fill line, added a scoop of eggs to outer area. Cover and added a light right above it, which helped heat the water to about 74 degrees (I think they hatch best over 70 degrees). A handful began hatching early, around 18 hours in. A ton more began to hatch around the 24-36 hour range. I had multiple scoops ton feed my tank, if anything I overfed the tank over the next couple of days. Even the Pygmy corys, kuhli loaches, and amano shrimp munched on the ones that ended up the bottom. I am now at the 72 hour mark and still have shrimp hatching. Thinking I’ll gorge the tank and then fast for a day or two while I prep the next batch. The only downside is that I think the inhabitants won’t want to go back to dry foods after this! Very happy with how this worked out. Later edited to add: One issue I found is that I was losing a lot of the baby brine shrimp through the screen, they were just too small and I was ending up with of lot wasted. The solution? Coffee filters! Using part of a coffee filter, I pick up the scoop and let it drain its water right onto a piece of coffee filter above the hole in the dish. Then I place this filter paper into the water to get the BBS off it. Also, I recommend using a pipette to suck up the BBS that get caught under the scoop, and that die around the rings in the bottom. Then drip this pipette onto the coffee filter. Way less waste than before.

I have now purchased two of these hatcheries after having such success with the first one. I had been using the "air stone in the soda bottle" method for hatching brine shrimp. However, I found this hatchery style to be less trouble needing only a led light source and no air pump. This style produces feeding quantities in 16 hours or less, and the collection procedure is very easy.

What a fun little device, clever, works well and here’s what I did. 4 cups of water 5 teaspoons salt under a desk lamp and water temp in the low 70’s. At 30 hours. There was enough to feed the fish a little bit. But then it really starts producing Enough to coat the bottom of the dipper strainer cup pink every hour or so. For 72 hours maybe more it does this. Rinse and repeat. If you have 80 degrees you do get more rapid release/grow/production rate - Total shrimp production- 2 teaspoons? Or so And the most important part is the guppies are growing like I gave them steroids. They almost grow in front of your eyes. I have a control group I only give flakes to and then the other group -the brine shrimp fed guppies just PoP in color. Easy, no mess worth the price, which I thought was steep but is really a great deal. You’ll be happy with results and ease of use.

I've always been hesitant at using baby brine shrimp to feed my fish because I always felt it was too complicated for something you have to do over and over again. I saw that thing recommended in a random video and honestly I have no regrets buying this! It's very easy to set up and to clean (I just rince with hot tap water). It's also very easy to harvest the brine shrimp with the tiny spoon/net, and there's almost no eggs collecting in the middle when set up correctly. What's cool too is that it's small and slim, and all black so you can put it almost anywhere and it's not ugly, it's perfect for people with a small home that don't have a dedicated fish room. I used the little hole on the side to put an airline tubing to add a small amount of water movement / oxygenation, hoping it would help them hatch / live longer, but the first few times I used it I didn't do that and a LOT of brine shrimp hatched anyway! I use it to feed my bettas, baby bettas, baby medakas and my community tank and everyone is super happy. Very cool thing and great tool! I do think it's expensive for what it is, but the design is very good and I still recommend it!
