size 10 women order large-better to be a little long
I bought this medical walking shoe as a transition from a walking boot to my own shoes after fracturing my the fifth metatarsal of my right foot. I used this medical shoe instead of the boot as I was weaning from medical footwear to my own shoes. It provided support and protection to the bottom of my foot to drive and walk with confidence outside. The top is soft, so do not expect the same overall foot support of a regular shoe. This is like wearing a slipper with a firm rocker bottom. The heel has some firmness to it, but not as much as a regular shoe. I found that if I fastened the foot straps then tried to slip this shoe on like a regular shoe, the heel collapsed on itself. Leave the foot strap unfastened, slip your foot in, then fasten foot and ankle straps. I recommend walking inside to get the feel of the foot before walking on uneven surfaces outside. I used a cane to walk with this shoe until I got used to the feel of it. I wear a size 10 women's shoe which is the large in this shoe according to the size chart. After reading the complaints regarding the extra length and bulk in the size large from another reviewer who wears a size 10, I ordered both the medium and the large. The medium was just barely big enough. My toes were at the end, which was ok for comfort, but if I hit anything with the front of the shoe, my toe could have been injured. I preferred the size large for my size 10 womens foot for several reasons: 1. Yes, the shoe seemed long and little wide for my foot, but this extra room over the medium gave my foot protection if I bumped it. The extra length did not interfere with my ability to drive. This shoe does feel different to drive, so practice in a light traffic area at first before going into heavy traffic or on a highway. 2. The shoe top was a little wide, so I overlapped the flaps going over the top of my foot (see image). Instead of feeling bulky, it felt like it cushioned my foot more. 3. The large was slightly taller than the medium. This extra height in the ankle allowed me to snug the strap tighter which made the shoe feel more secure on my foot with less heel slipping when walking. Don't cut the ankle strap!! I used the suggestion from another reviewer on how to adjust the strap to fit snugly without cutting it. Here is how to shorten the strap without cutting it. Notice that one side of the strap is smooth and the other side is fuzzy. One end is double sided velcro loop squares and the other end is single side loop square. Thread the double side strap end through one strap loop so that the fuzzy side faces away from the shoe. Fold the fuzzy side over on itself, bringing the single loop end to stick to the opposite end of the fuzzy side next to the double sided loop square. Leaving the ends stuck together with the double side loop squares exposed, thread the Velcro loop end of the folded strap (ends stuck together) through the loop on the shoe tongue and then through the other strap loop. Reference the picture of the unfastened shoe. Place the shoe on your foot, then pull the folded strap across your foot snuggly to fasten. By leaving the strap intact as purchased, you can then adjust the strap length as needed by moving the single loop end along the fuzzy strap side to your desired length.

BraceAbility Closed Toe Medical Walking Shoe
Like many of the people here, I ended up having to buy a medical boot to allow my foot to heal from an injury. In my case, I broke my pinkie toe. For a month, I thought I could make due on my own without buying any special equipment. I taped it, I babied it, I hobbled around in my winter boots...all was going well until I refractured it. After THAT happened, my husband convinced me to get a proper medical boot. I didn't want one of those big and clunky things that go half way up your calf, so I went searching on Amazon. This bootie was the perfect compromise. This medical bootie is SO easy to put on and wear. It opens completely up, allowing you to put on the bootie without any additional pressure on your injury. The various velcro straps made the bootie very secure on my foot. The size Medium was perfect for my size 7.5 foot. I also tried the small, but my foot was pushing out the front. I did have to borrow one of my husband's thick winter socks to wear inside the boot so my foot didn't twist or slosh in the boot..it kind of helped fill in the space. I could tighten the straps down but my toe was not having the extra pressure, so this was my work around. It is fairly lightweight but protective of the foot. I've accidentally stubbed my foot a few times while wearing this and it definitely protected my foot from any reinjury. I've spent 2 months wearing this bootie.... I went from hobbling around on my heel in it, to finally being able to put some occasionally pressure down, and now I can "walk" while wearing it. This has been a godsend after the refracture, and I wish I had gotten it when I first broke my toe. I've worn it in the rain and in the cold. I've even accidentally fallen asleep while wearing it, and it was still comfortable. It does best on smooth and flat pavement, but I've taken it out for a spin on grassy hills and my backyard. I've been using a cane to help with stability when out in public or getting in/out of my vehicle. I've finally gotten more mobility back and think I'll be out of the bootie fairly soon. I wanted to wait a fair bit before I wrote my review, to make sure it actually helped my injury, but I've been very satisfied with it since I bought it. I've put it through it's paces the past 2 months and it's still holding up fine. Highly HIGHLY recommend to anyone with a toe injury or foot injury. Skip the big bulky boot and get this one instead.

Awesome boot! Does its job very well!
I really wanted to give it 5 stars but I ordered a second boot about 10 days after the first, same size, I duplicated the order. The new boot was different, it fit different. And it opened the opposite direction as the other boot. Thereโs no left or right option so what gives? A few final thoughts: itโs actually quite comfortable. Had I not found it Iโm not sure I would have ever used anything at all. The one the doctor gave me was about as useless as they come. This boot makes it easy to get in and out of and therefore keeps me using it. The sizing is odd. The boot says I should be a large but Iโm an established 11.5 and this boot is still a little loose. So Iโd say it runs large. The boot is super durable. Iโve spread yards and yards of gravel and spent the last two days walking on a roof and climbing a ladder. The boot has served its purpose fully. Iโm not out running a marathon but Iโm sure not sitting around feeling bad for myself either. When I go out where there will be a lot of people I wear another sock and then wrap it lightly in Coban. It helps me fill out the boot a bit more thereby securing my foot in the boot. Less of a tripping hazard and less chance of the foot moving around when it gets bumped or stepped on. The boot really is a life changer. P.s. boot maker people, maybe make a super duper high end version that laces up and offers a bit more protection but maintains the rigidity for healing. Think of it as work/public vs. running to the mailbox. Iโd pay for that immediately. $2/day for 6 weeks? Worth it!

Exactly as Advertised!
After banging my toe/foot on furniture, I wanted a shoe that I could wear outside that wouldnโt hurt my toe or foot, yet would give me the protection I needed. I didnโt want an open toed one because the weather was still cold and rainy/damp, so this shoe suited me perfectly, The sole was not smooth or slippery, so I wasnโt concerned about the wet ground and the Velcro closures stay closed with no problems. Itโs lightweight yet durable, and the Velcro design makes it versatile for either foot. I wear a size 9-9 1/2 womenโs shoe, and I purchased the size Medium which fits well, even with wide feet. If youโre looking for a protective shoe rather than a boot, look no further - this one perfect, and priced right for the value!

Works and is comfort
This seems like the thing that wouldn't help your foot. Well, it totally does! It totally isolates any foot movement. It worked very well and was SO comfortable. It kinda looked rad too. This really helped me and was worth it

Size MATTERS!
Ladies, BEWARE these are mens sized! I wear a ladies wide EEE 7, the medium was a boat on my foot! I ordered a small next...never thought I'd get the SAME exact boot, shipped in a size sm bag! (I still had the medium and measured them back to back and found them to be identical! Soooo, I just ordered an xsm, will see what happens with that! Stay tuned! Other info: it is very wide, not very comfortable/hard as a rock solewise (so i put an insert in that fits me, inside and it helps cushion the sole.) It is soft mostly on the shoe fabric, with no hard plastic to haul around (like the 12 lb boot I'd been wearing, for 3 bone fractures, on top of my foot!) It has a VERY high instep strap, which i had to remove, just to be able to walk in this thing. So in comparison to the large knee height medical boot, it's an improvement. I like that it is closed toe and light weight. Just BEWARE of the mens sizing; save yourself from multiple exchanges and waiting for a more confortable fit, while you rehab!

Great medical shoe
Great shoe at good price. So much better than one you get at hospital that has no ankle support. Secure fit and ankle support.
