George Best was my absolute idol and inspiration. I lived in England 68-73 (10-14 years old). This book is absolutely the definitive book… PERIOD!Thank you Duncan Hamilton for giving me insight and inspiration into this Genius. I learned so much that I never knew. This book is a unique piece.

George Best MUFC and beyond.
George Best was one of the most talented players to grace a pitch. This book was a good read but there were no real revelations in the book. I think it will always elude his fans and critics why he was so bent on self destruction. I wonder how he would have done in todays football with the protection and guidance players routinely receive. He will always be in Football history to many exactly what his name said. BEST.

Absolutely no regrets adding this book to my library! A wonderful exposé of George Best's life, with no holds barred. This book has everything...and it's really well-written too!!Recommended to all lovers of football as well as historians of the era which was the 60's.

George....where did it all go wrong?.....
Duncan Hamilton's excellent biography of George Best points to some pivotal moments in his life and career. His greatest playing moment and the height of his sporting life was Manchester United's winning of the European Cup on May 29th 1968. Best was only truly happy when he was playing, scoring and receiving the adulation of his adoring fans. Nothing else mattered, the aftermath celebrations, the rewards, the copious amounts of alcohol, and the constant flow of beautiful women who entered his life briefly and ultimately departed soon after. It is said that Best was recognized as the first celebrity footballer, his life becoming public property and began quickly spiraling out of control. If only Best had been offered psychiatric counseling, if only Matt Busby had understood more fully his prodigal son, and rather than gently lecture him punished him in a more fitting and effective manner. George Best was a flawed genius, an outstanding sportsman, and it is a great pity that his footballing skills were always overshadowed by this darker side. However ultimately we all control our own destiny and must stand responsible for decisions made and actions taken throughout our life.

Immortal
I was very disappointed with this book. I was expecting a book about George Bests life, but it kept telling about the lives of people I had never heard off, and wasn't interested in. I would have like to hear more about his interaction with his family. It was mostly about his football life, I was expecting more about his family life, growing up in Belfast.

An intimate, respectful, insightful tribute - warts and all!
I liked the realistic, respectful portrayal of a very complex person and his life.Clearly, a huge amount of research went into the project, but, as a Belfast man, I was bemused, at the very least, at Glentoran being described as a "Catholic team.."

Flawed Genius
Very good biography of Best. Most of the stories are well known but the book is well written and doesn’t sugar coat the subject.
