Probably, assuming that your cord has some lateral deformability. The end hole of each tensioner is indeed 5 mm in diameter, but the two slots have constrictions with a gap of 4 mm that lead to their 5 mm cavities. I have used these tensioners only with 550 paracord (4 mm, 5/32"), with which they work very well. The trickiest part might be threading the end of a 4.8 mm braided cord through the hole, depending on how much the cut end splays out. (If you seal the ends of the cord by melting, you can quickly shape the melt by rolling it between two hard surfaces [NOT your fingers!] in the few seconds before it hardens.)

Q: Anyone tried this with 1.8mm paracord?

I can't say that I've ever used any sort of cord that small for anything other than maybe a loop on a zipper. I don't see why it wouldn't work though. I use 1/8th inch cord (roughly 3.175 mm) for the guylines on my tents or tarps, and those tensioners are great with that size. Not sure what you're using cord that small for... but for what the tensioners cost... It's not like you'd be out much if they don't work well enough.

There's no load holding weight rating for these that I have seen. They're meant to be used as guy line tensioning adjusters for tents, rain flies, and easy-up devices. They work very well for that intended purpose. You don't ever want to use these to support a heavy weight. You would be better off looking for a different product.
