I bought this to add more smoke flavor to my pellet grill. These are actually pretty impressive. They are easy to get lit easy to use an add a lot of smoke flavoring. They would work in a gas grill as well!

Works great about 2.5 hour of smoke with wood chips or 4 hours with pellets... Pellets are definitely more cost effective. This still puts out quite a bit of heat. If you are planning on cold smoking it will bring a "Bradley" style smoker up to 45°c on a 0°c day... Use something with less insulation and it should be fine.

My co-op only allows electric grills and to be honest, electric grills, at least the ones that were available 5 years ago are just ok. They heat up and are consistent, unless the wind is blowing on them, but the flavor is missing something. I've tried soaked wood chips in a smoker box but that was an epic fail, the chips cooked but didn't put out any noticeable smoke or add any flavor. I saw this tube and decided to give it a try, wow, this thing works. I only problem I had was determining the right amount of pellets to use. The first time I pretty much filled the tube and couldn't get it to light. The last time I used half the amount of pellets and added a little paper, the way you'd do when lighting you grill and the thing smoked.......and smoked. This thing really works and does exactly what it advertises. You just have to experiment with the amount of pellets you need for what you're cooking. Oh, I used the Kona brand chips, also from Amazon.
