The Birdhouse Book: Building, Placing, and Maintaining Great Homes for Great Birds

We want to try to help our little feathered friends to survive the harsh Vermont winters. Honestly, when we see the smaller birds during severe cold and snowy weather, our hearts go out to them. So, we purchased the book hoping to find ways to create some shelters for them and this book is full of relatively basic and simple construction projects for anyone with basic wood working skills. Hopefully, with the aid of this book, we are successful in making winter a little more bearable for a few of the species birds who don't know how to fly to a warmer climate.

This book has interesting plans for bird boxes. It has a different Chickadee box plan that I had not seen before.

This book is all inclusive. Not just bird houses, but where and when they nest for each region of the country. A great reference book. You won't be disappointed.

Why is it that everything we do has to be injected with politics? The otherwise very fine book, has at least one contributor that felt the need to preach his climate dogma. It’s utter nonsense. We know that birds have survived and thrived in a variety of climates. Most recently the glacial maximum dating 20k years from present. That’s the day before yesterday is the history of birds. I grow tired of these anti-human impact activist masquerading and sincere objective scientist. Climate change is the least of birds problems. They’ll adapt or migrate or evolve as in the past. I don’t need a birdhouse book telling me to go vote. Sigh…..

Part of my retirement plan is to do more woodworking and I have made four birdhouses from this book. The plans and layout are very clear and the birdertalk makes me feel comfortable that these designs are the state of the art.

I was looking for actual patterns I could use for cutting the wood. The book information was excellent although we find very few of those birds in Saskatchewan, we will go about our search in other ways!
