This 2021 updated reprint features information on Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART), a way to fill cavities without the use of a dental drill, as well as updated information on other training material and resources. This book is an important companion to Hesperian's classic book Where There Is No Doctor . All Hesperian books are regularly updated and reprinted to reflect accurate medical information. Community health workers, educators and individuals from around the world use Where There Is No Dentist to help people care for their teeth and gums. This book's broad focus makes it an invaluable resource. The author uses straightforward language and careful instructions to explain how to examine patients diagnose common dental problems make and use dental equipment use local anesthetics place fillings and remove teeth There is also a special chapter on oral health and HIV/AIDS, which provides the dental worker with a detailed, well-illustrated discussion of the special problems faced by people living with HIV/AIDS, and appropriate treatment. Review: classic survival book - "better to have it, and not need it; than to need it, and not have it!" Three generations of dentists in our family and would not dare risking a book shelf without this classic. Review: Great Informative Book - I was looking to expand my library of self sufficient type books. Really I accidentally ordered this one when ordering the doctor one. I haven't really read it, but took some time to thumb through, look it over pretty closely and read a few excerpts that interested me. Enough, at least, to decide it's a keep rather than a return. It has alot of great information that would be helpful along with some pretty decent illustrations. Really for anyone building their one library it's a great addition.

Won't make you a real dentist but could get you out of a jam.
This book freaks out my wife. It's very thorough and helpful. Still looking for how to replace teeth with one long curvy tooth, no gaps. It's good to have but I hope I never have to use the info in this book. 5 star, would and do recommend.

Large barcode sticker on front cover
A HUGE sticker was on the front cover of this book... not very smart placement by whomever stuck it on. Luckily, I had some lemon essential oil and was able to get it off and then all the sticky residue with the oil. Suggestion: put the sticker (if there has to be one) on the spine or on the back, not the front cover. It is a new book, and in great shape otherwise, and we look forward to reading it.

When you know nothing, it is great !
No connection to dentistry, bought for informational purposes only. Well worth the general insight into dentistry ! If out in never never land, only help.

Excellent back country dentistry information!
The book gives detailed information on how to educate people about dental health and how to treat dental damage to teeth in a variety of ways. The only thing I found odd was a section suggesting using the most advanced and expensive form of dental filling for filling teeth as a semi permanent solution where no drill is available. There may be a good reason, but I'm a little unclear why. Perhaps the much less expensive silver amalgam filling, which can be purchased for about one dollar per filling, will not hold without a properly prepared and drilled hole to put it into. Very easy language making it easy to understand for people with no dental background.

Not the 2019 edition
I received the 2010 edition, not 2019 as advertised. I returned it.

Excellent Book for Remote Use /Preppers
This is a very useful book if you are planning an expedition to a remote area, live in a remote area or want to be prepared for SHTF/TEOTWAWKI The written word within is easy to understand - almost written for someone reading it as their second language - but that is a big positive, as the person reading this book will unlikely be a dental professional. The diagrams are clear and complement the text. Another good feature about this book is that it gives plenty of advice and tips on teaching oral health in the community, to prevent oral decay in the first place. Highly recommended - 5*'s
