Definitely an important classic on the eternal life of Jesus.
I finally finished this book! I took it slow so that I could enjoy learning more about the Savior from this book, and it was a blessing to me, because even though I've read the New Testament many times, I learned so much from reading Talmage's book. I enjoyed it so much, and all the consummate research he did, that I actually went and got some of the sources he got much of his material from and put them on my Kindle. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand more about not just Jesus' life but his pre-mortal existence and his importance in our own lives. Most of the scholarship which Talmage used was actually from non-Mormon sources (the ones I got to read were both Christian and Judaic). So this book is for anyone who has an interest in learning more about the Savior. This is not a book you want to read quickly, or you will miss so many important concepts. I read all of the notes at the back of each chapter as well, and often there were little snippets of information in the notes that I did not know. I will have to read this book again, to extract as much information as possible, but it definitely made me more knowledgeable of Jesus the Christ.

NO Table of Contents, Chapter Headings, NO Index nor Footnotes! Difficult to read a very Lovely and Sacred book.
Absolutely the worst publication of a book I have ever seen!Has anyone seen a Book of 349 pages and 42 chapters withNO Table of Contents, Chapter Headings, Index or Footnotes???!!!!You must scroll though every page and chapter to get to one Passage you want to read. IMPOSSIBLE!In my opinion, his publication is obviously a QUICK PRINT of a very Lovely and Sacred book. I hope other publishers take note! Very disappointed. This is a complete disappointment this publication is obviously a Quick Print of a very Lovely and Sacred book. Very sad and disappointing.

Great leaarning opportunity
I originally read this book as a full-time missionary in 1979. It took me about 6 months to read and comprehend it. While it is not an "easy read," it is the best non-scripture doctrine book I have ever read. It helped me grow closer to my Savior and appreciate Him as my personal Redeemer.

A Beautiful Book
This is a beautiful book in every way. The subject material is so thorough and presented in a logical manner. Every chapter has notes at the end to further explain points that are touched on in the chapter but not completely needed to explain the section presented, and it is certainly worth it to read every note! I feel I have learned an incredible amount about Christ, through his life, teachings, and other scriptural accounts from reading this book. Regarding this copy in particular, the cover artwork is gorgeous. The book itself looks wonderful, and has a clean, easy to read typeface. The only change I would have made in my purchase would be to consider a hardback instead of paperback as this is certainly a book I will be referencing for the rest of my life.

Not as hard to read as I thought
There are long parts of this book that are hard to get through, especially in the beginning. There are a few parts that upset me, because they reflect an outdated view of women, men, the Catholic Church, and people of color. All of that aside, this book was very interesting and I learned a lot about history, culture, and individuals mentioned in the Bible. It was often spiritually edifying as well and increased my appreciation for my Savior, Jesus Christ, and my understanding of many scriptures and events.

The Definitive History of Jesus Christ
My husband and I read this book together each night and completed it on Easter week. The celebration of the holiday this year has never had a more spiritual meaning to us. James Talmage was a scholar and broadened our vocabulary as we looked up each unfamiliar word in the dictionary. We didn't look up all his references, but we felt confident that the information was accurate.

Satisfactory digital version of a classic
The book itself is a classic: a very thorough exploration of the life and mission of Jesus Christ, based in scripture, and incorporating the best scholarly studies available to Talmage in the early twentieth century. I bought this digital version to run on my Kindle Touch. It contains fewer typos than most digital transcriptions from classic titles. On my limited-ability Kindle, the footnotes appear at the end of each subheading simply as part of the "printed page" rather than as click-on links, but that didn't bother me.

Words are missing and wrong words are used.
For some reason the print that I received has several words missing and some words that are used aren't even the correct word. Very disappointed as I have read this book before but it must have been an earlier print or edition. If you look at the picture the very last line that paragraph you will see the wrong word is used (became). This is a terrible print. Also all the footnotes are missing from this edition which is also very disappointing as there is so much information in the foot notes. Don't buy this edition.

Print too small for comfort
The book contents are amazing but I want to warn future possible buyers that this edition has incredibly small print. It is as small as the font on ingredients in a food package label, throughout the book. Apparently published by Amazon themselves, (I didn’t know Amazon were publishers too). I plan to buy another more expensive edition where there is normal size print to make it easier to read, enjoy and study the pre-mortal and mortal life of our Saviour and more.
