I Have a Magnet Problem
Not sure what it is about magnets, but I sure like them. I'm sure it has something to do with their ability to simplify problem solving. These switchable magnets are some of my favorites. Not only do they work really well for squaring up materials, but they perfect for jig making. I have several woodworking and metalworking jigs that require the use of thee magnets, and with their threaded holes, there are many more things I'm able to do with them. as far as hold strength, I'm not quite sure they have as much holding power as they tout, but they have plenty of holding power to keep my jigs stationary.

Great low resistance connection
I should explain that I did not purchase this for its designed purpose as a welding return ground. I purchased it to be used as a temporary measurement ground on a metallic ground plane in an electromagnetic measurement laboratory. In the function above, I need a very low resistance attachment point on a sheet metal ground plane for measurement return purposes. This attachment point is ever changing, so the magnetic approach is perfect. For the purposes above this clamp worked perfectly. It’s easy to move and attach, offers a good wire connection surface with threaded holes, and provides a very low resistance point to the ground plane (20m).Worked perfectly for my unique usage.

Magswitch MagSquare 165 150lb
The little magnet works well on sheetmetal. However, I was anticipating one a bit larger in size than this. I do welding on plate an inch thick at times so I will have to try the 600lb and up next. But this smaller one is awesome like I said for smaller plate metal.

The ability to turn of the magnetic field makes them easy to clean
I work as a welder in a small fab shop, and I have found the magswitch products indispensable for my work. I purchased both the 165 and the 400, and use them routinely for set up work. The 400 is too strong and creates too much of a field to weld near, so it is used primarily to stablize pieces a couple of feet from where I'm running a bead. The 165 can be used in fairly close proximity to the weld area, as the field is not as strong. These models are not designed for high heat applications so I have to be careful how close they are to the bead, and how much heat I'm running. I usually work with thin wall square tubing so it's not that much of an issue as the heat isn't cranked up that high. I do a lot of metal cutting and grinding as well, and they help hold pieces when clamps are not possible or effective. The ability to turn of the magnetic field makes them easy to clean. They aren't cheap, but if you work with metal on a daily basis, they are worth the money. Great product!

Do not recommend
Guy with the filling cabinet has no idea what he he is talking about. The cabinet it probably 20 gauge if you use 1/8 or 1/4 steel there is no movement. Biggest issue is it's so magnetically powerful when mig welding it it pulls the wire causing issues that make it not worth the money !!

Replacement magnet
I am very satisfied with this purchase. It is somewhat expensive but in my opinion you get what you pay for. This is the second one I have purchased of this size. It has great holding ability and can be used in most case with one hand. I do a lot of metal fabrication and I use this size and some smaller regularly. The old one still works it is just difficult turning the handle with one hand due to years of use.
