Rescue Me: Season 5

Don't be a Dummy like I was skipping over this Show for YEARS! both when on FX & when offered via Amazon.On one of those Days, after an Hour of scanning producing zero results, finally decided to try RESCUE ME being perhaps the ONLY Show or Movie I haven't watched! What a Surprise! Wound up in a BINGE-Festso great this Series was!Perhaps I continually passed on this Show being a bit jaded as a New Yorker for over 30 yrs and living through 9/11. Was a bit weary of yet another 9/11 oriented Show, Movie, Documentary, News Report ....etc etc. I'm not sure but I will admit I couldn't have been more wrong.I think the genuine care and Heartfelt Intentions to pay homage to Firefighters, particularly NY Fighters was one of the facets of Leary that shone through this Show - while not a huge Fan of Leary as a Stand UP Comedian but as a Comedy Writer seemed IMO, he found his niche.This Show was a balanced blend of Drama and Comedy. Because I binged it, the Characters became so developed that in my Mind I swear I would walk out my door and bump into one of them. Some of the scenarios were certainly Over the Top but its TV and one just has to "go with it" as one should. It always makes me laugh when I read Reviews pointing out inconsistencies, unbelievability factors and Time Line errors - it's ENTERTAINMENT!I do hope that if you're someone like me, who reads Reviews being selective about where you burn your "Watch Time" - I encourage you to just give the First Season a try - pretty positive you'll be hooked. I also hope you decide sooner than later as Amazon is ending the Series soon and you'll be bummed if you don't get to finish before you have to purchase.Hats Off to Denis Leary and his Tribute to our City's Firemen who on a daily basis, risk their Families, Homes and own Lives for us all. Bravo.

Before I review the season, I feel the need to let potential buyers know that this season 5 is merely a compilation of the dvd sets for season 5.1 and 5.2. Not just the discs are the same, but the actual packaging for these sets, including the covers are included as well. Essentially this is just a large cover over the two sets previously available. So, if you have the other sets, there's nothing knew. Similarly, if you have 5.1, better stick with getting 5.2 when its on sale (if its still available). However, if you don't have either, this is the way to go, even though it's a slightly clunky packaging.As to the show, it feels like a return to form in many ways. Not that season 4 was bad, it just felt like the show was starting to show some signs of aging. Season 5 really ups the ante, and makes the show feels fresh again, something difficult for a show five seasons in its run. I was shocked by Michael J. Fox's performance, definitely out of character of his usual role, and rather impressive. He provided a great foil for Dennis's character, and was very fun to watch. I also felt the writing was stronger, giving the characters more interesting stories, and were generally speaking a lot of fun. Overall, I recommend season 5 as a whole and recommend it to fans of the show, especially those who thought season 4 was a little more disappointing.

Rescue me is seriously one of the best television shows to ever be on the air. It caught me from the first episode & i've never missed an episode since. I recently purchased all of the seasons available on DVD because I love asking family or friends if they've ever seen the show & when they say No, I start from episode 1 and get them hooked. The casting couldn't be better, the writing is some of the best i've ever seen and the performances are flawless. It may sound strange to root for the guy that's an alcoholic, adulterer, who could definitely use parenting classes, but you find yourself pulling for Tommy and his family and just wanting everything to work out. In almost every episode there are moments that might make you cry if not for the hilarious way someone will say something so inappropriate at just the right time. If you haven't watched any of the episodes, do yourself a favor & buy them all, you won't be sorry you did!

What to say about this series? It was a little too sexy. There was a lot of bad language. It was very Irish. There were a lot of people with drinking problems.Having said that, I was so engrossed in the story, I got to know the people in it like they were people I knew in life. I couldn't wait to start the next episode.It made me wonder what other TV series I missed watching, that were good.And, just think, I watched every episode and season from the beginning....with no commercials. Now, that to me, is heaven. That to me is having a Kindle Fire. Janet McCall

I have always been a fan of this show but I have to say that by this season it really started to lose it's edge. Tommy became a little less "Tommy like" and the series just got weird. Overall I did really enjoy it when it was on FX and am now buying all of the seasons on dvd. I like to wait a couple of years in between viewings and then pick cold rainy days to start from season one all over again. For the simple reason that I liked it so much in the begining I give it 5 stars.

Good condition. Two volume set. One volume set is new and unopened. Second volume was used but good as new. Sellers description of product was spot on. Excellent price. Great series.

I LOVE THE SHOW, BUT I WAS VERY PISSED THAT I WAS MISSING THE LAST DISC THAT 2 OR 3 OF THE EPISODES WAS MISSING. THE ONE THAT TOMMY WAS SHOT BY TEDDY. I NEVER MISSED A SHOW WHEN IT WAS ON TV, I WOULD REAALY LIKE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO PUT THIS SEASON 5 TOGETHER WOULD SEND ME THE LAST DISC FOR THIS SEASON 5, BUT I GUESS I'M JUST DREAMING ON THAT ONE.

Good series, season 5 had some hits and misses but overall very satisfying.
