Edition by GEORGE SZELL (2013-05-14)

BEWAREI simply cant understand why sony does not issue a complete George Szell collection. It was hard, but I found the contents of this edition on a Japanese site. It is missing a lot. It does not have the Beethoven, Brahms, or Mozart, Grieg, ...... concertos that Szell recorded. And it is missing significant mono recordings. Most of George Szell's stereo recordings have made it to CD. And of course, it does not have his few emi and philips recordings.However, if you don't have much, I suppose it is a cheap way to get a large collection. As to the sound. I have bought several versions of his recordings.....in particular the Beethoven symphonies. No one seems to have taken out the few flaws in the recordings that persist with each new edition. I still would never be without any of his recordings. They are all consistently great.

This set has almost everything Szell recorded with Cleveland. Despite issuing some Haydn symphonies from the mono era there are many other recordings in mono that were left out. Doesn't make sense.Also some stereo works were also left out, i.e. Smetana dances from the Bartered Bride, altho the overture is included (in mono!).The recordings are superb. The DSD technology really makes these recordings sound far better than they have ever sounded. It is like listening to them for the first time. A real treat.The price has gone up since it has come out. Try buying direct from japan were this was issued. Price should be between $150 to $20o excluding shipping and credit card exchange rate charge.

I have many/most of these Cd's released by Sony Classical and it's various incarnation. At this point of time, I have ordered and received the SACD/RBCD remastering of the Beethoven Symphonies. I don't need to listen to any other recordings. I am hoping and waiting for more SACD remasterings from Sony/Japan.

Habe die „The Edtition“ von George Szell erstanden und musste ziemlich enttäuscht feststellen, dass mir fast alle Aufnahmen in exakt derselben „Aufnahmequalität“ vorliegen. Somit die Chance vertan wurde, hier Korrekturen vorzunehmen. Ebenfalls zum Teil sehr schade, dass man verschiedene Aufnahmen (z.B. Beethoven) auf einzelne CDs verteilt, also eine ungute Platzverschwendung. Mein erstes Fazit ist, dass diese „Edition“ ohne jeglichen Sachverstand und Respekt vor einem ihrer Zugpferde zusammengestellt wurde. Und wer sich einen Kauf der Edition überlegt und George Szell Fan ist, sollte seine CDs / LPs überprüfen. Wer natürlich kaum etwas von George Szell im Besitz hat, sollte zugreifen, da die Klangqualität gerade der Stereoaufnahmen sehr gut sind, von den Monoaufnahmen sollte man nicht allzu viel erwarten, sie befinden sich im Rahmen der damaligen Möglichkeiten. Das ist meine Meinung und ich gehöre nicht der Firma Sony oder Subunternehmen der Firma an. Und trotz der Kritik vergebe ich die 5 Sterne, weil die Edition ein sehr guter Start für einen ersten Eindruck darstellt.Wann wird es eine über die Firmen gehende Gesamtübersicht geben?

セル、クリーブランド管の録音の中から、ハイドン、モーツアルト、ベートーヴェン、ブラームス、シューマン等の名演奏を選び、良い音質で、４９枚のＣＤに収めたものが聴ける。　ベートーヴェン、ブラームス、シューマンは、交響曲全曲が収められ、さらに、ドボルザークの交響曲７～９番、スラブ舞曲、ブルックナー、マーラー等が選曲されており、現在の中古価格＝約１万円程度で入手できるため、１枚当たり２００円程度！・・・というコストパフォーマンスに優れた逸品です。　モーツアルトの交響曲では、例えば第４０番は、１９５５年のモノラル録音、１９６７年のステレオ録音、１９７０年のライブ録音という３つのヴァージョンを聴き比べられるという特徴もあります。　交響曲、管弦楽曲が主になっており、協奏曲は、リヒャルト・シュトラウスのホルン協奏曲モーツアルトのクラリネット協奏曲、ピアノ協奏曲、各１曲のみです。　珍しいのは、セルがピアノを受け持つモーツアルトのヴァイオンリン・ソナタ等や、ザルツブルク音楽祭でウィーンフィルとのブルックナー第７番のライブ録音という様な珍しい録音が聴けるという特徴もあります。　アナログ盤では、高音のきつめな音質でしたが、ＣＤ化されるにあたり、自然な聴きやすい音質でマスタリングされています。　セルの録音すべてを聴きたいという方以外なら、これで十分と思えます。願わくば、数多ある協奏曲のボックス・セットを追加発売される事を期待します。

添付の資料が韓国語と英語で書かれていました。内容は良いです。数枚しか未だ聞いていないのですが音は問題ないです。ＣＤがレコードのようにビニールで包まれた紙ジャケットに入っていたので大事に扱っていると思いました。

家にあるセル指揮のドボルザーク交響曲第８番、第９番を聞いて以来セルのファンになりました。私はクラシックはほとんど素人なのですが、他の楽曲で他の有名な指揮者のものを聞いても、何だか後に残らず聞き流してしまう感じでいたが、これは違うかも知れませんが、セルのは一音一音がハッキリと聞き取れる、純な感じが私にはピッタリなんですね。もし、若い頃にセルの作品を聞いていたら、私はすごくクラシック好きになって通になっていたかも知れません。このボックスを制作した韓国は音楽熱があるのかな、でもCDの袋が最初からよれていたりするのがちょっと残念。

いろいろ重複して持っていますが、思い切って買いました。買ってよかったです。 よく機械的でという評価を目にしますが、そうは感じませんでした。むしろ合奏が柔らかく溶け合う瞬間が多々あり、聴き通すとセルのイメージが一変しました。録音や再生の問題も大きいのでしょうか？ ベートーベン、ハイドンがよかった。
