It depends upon your aunt's bowel movements. If it is fairly liquid, and in large quantity, they might. For a firmer bowel movement, I don't think she will have any problems. If it's a matter of beginning to go before reaching the bathroom, they will not leak, but a full, liquid BM might. You might want to check into Butterfly.com for bowel incontinence.

Not the pad part, but the panty part on my 91 yo mom chafes her when she sits, like sandpaper, making raw sores: how do these compare?

My own mom is 88 and wears these pants all the time with fairly frequent changes (4 - 7 times per 24-hour period) due to urinary incontinence. She's been wearing them exclusively for over a year and has NEVER had an issue with chafing, sores or other irritations. How are these for postpartum? Or can anyone suggest a good brand/mesh underwear for postpartum?

According to both my urologist and my primary physician, products for postpartum use or menstrual flow are NOT interchangeable with products for incontinence. You need something specifically for post-partum use rather than looking at incontinence supplies.

how do you determine the correct size to buy?

i used mothers general clothing size and weight. She wears sm/med in pants so I get the med/sm for her. They just fit. Not overgenerous in the sizing. Mom weights 116 pounds and is 5'4".
